Had a birthday celebration last week with my family at Patria. The food and services was first rate. In fact, we left it to the waiter to plan and bring our dinner to us and he hit the mark on all fronts. Not an inexpensive meal but one where you leave feeling you got your money's worth.
If you are looking for a special occasion meal experience, Patria is a good place to go!

Patria is very good. Here are some things to know before you go:

1. This is where the young professional downtown crowd intersects with the hip King West and Queen West scene. Expect a high energy, vibrant atmosphere.
2. The food is quite good. Brunch is a big deal, yet anytime you go you will find a delicious potato omelette, a side of peppers that are great, fresh salads, and well-cooked beef and seafood. They tend to prepare octopus well, which I enjoy and tend to assume that if you can prepare octopus well, you can prepare other things at least equally as well.
3. They try to sell you on the idea that plates are meant to share, yet some share better than others. I find this pitch a bit confusing when I go in. Unlike Spain, where you figure a 2 € item is a small thing for sharing or for a small bite, here it is not exactly plain that you share a 17$ brunch salad or plate and order three more things.
4. Make reservations. If you have a group, this is a great group place. They have space for you and your group, just book in advance.
5. Parking is largely on the street, though there are some pricier lots as well. If you are staying downtown, best to cab or uber.

Atmosphere was nice, it has a beautiful interior. The ceilings were high and the beautiful woven wall piece.

Our server, David was top notch the entire way through. Professional, efficient and friendly but not too in your face.

We’ve ordered a variety of plates and drinks and left super stuffed.
Food
The best was the Queso Frito – Fried goat cheese with fresh figs, walnuts and honey – amazing, it’s a MUST!
Bacon wrapped dates: juicy and delicious, a nice salty-sweet combo
House Marinated Olives – just ok
12 Month D.O.Manchego – very good however it’s a very small portion.
Tartar de carne – I had better.
Pan con tomato – Basic bread with tomato spread
Paella de Bogavante – small, good for 2 people.

Definitely satisfied our paella cravings with this order :)
The paella was good, and came out nice and hot. It was nicely seasoned, and rice was perfectly cooked.

For dessert we got
Chocolate Pudding – was nice, different.
Pastel Vasco – good taste, I find it a little bit dry, maybe ask for more ice cream.
Coffee IceCream +Black Olives Marmalade + Spiced Cream + Nut Wafer – different, not too sweet, good for sharing.

Recommended by a friend who lives here. What a gem, great food, knowledgable staff. It has the right feel when you walk in and doesn't disappoint. Order the paella first, it takes a while, and then eat other selections while you wait for it. A bit noisy for conversation, but not unmanageable.

Had brunch here on a Sunday. The restaurant itself is lovely, although a little hard to find as you have to go through a back alley or lane way to get to it from King West. Once you find the place, it's well worth it. Great menu, nice pricing, wonderful selection. Everything we ate was so tasty - croquetas, an eggplant dish, peppers, mmmmmm ! I would love to come back on a sunny, warm day or evening and sit out on the patio while enjoying a drink and bite to eat. Will definitely return. If we came here for dinner, the paella would be my top choice - which one of the six varieties I'd select though, I'm not sure.
