We booked in for 3 nights back in July 2011 and unfortunately were really unimpressed by this place. The main reason was the noise from a) protesters and b) drunken idiots falling about over the corridors, both of which the hotel felt were beyond their responsibility... that could be true if a) the protesters weren't members of the staff, and b) the drunken people were allowed to continue partying in the corridor and then pass out there. Come on - I mean if you stayed in a youth hostel, you might expect that, but a property which is trying to cater for families and so on, should not allow this sort of thing to happen. Pub next door was Irish - served its purpose and had good selection of beer on draught - probably should've drunk more of it to forget about the rants of "holiday inn, no back down" from the cleaning staff protesters.

Thank you for posting about your experience here on Tripadvisor. We very sorry to hear that your stay with us was not up to standards. We did have a labor dispute happening for a while in the summer. In regards to the protestors, as they were on public property outside of the hotel they were within legal rights to protest there, and there was not much the hotel could do to stop them. The drunk people in the hallway is something that we could have taken care of during your stay, and we apologize for not fixing the situation as it happened. We have taken care to provide better security during the night, and have had very few incidents since the summer. It is always appreciated to hear what can be done to make our hotel better for our guests. Thank you for bringing these incidents to our attention.

Nice location near Toronto’s Annex area, close to convenience store, a beer store, and a grocery store. The Yorkville area with its glamourous bars and shops is only a block away. The rooms and beds are comfortable.

A good Holiday Inn property next to the Bloor Station and across the University and within 5 minutes of shopping area which is like the Fifth Avenue of Toronto. Comfortable big rooms, helpfull staff and a nice bar with good music. I had a scare though when a very old lady who seemed to be lost, got into the elevator and walked into my room which coincidentally had a lock malfunctioning and the hotel staff was fixing it with the door open. They thought the lady was my relative and fortunately I was returning to the room to pick up something so avoided a big problem. On raising an alarm, the reception tried talking to the lady who spoke a foreign language and left the hotel before the police could come. I wonder if such instances are avoidable.

Room Tip: Higher floors might be better

Thank you for posting your experience with us here on Tripadvisor. We are glad that you enjoyed most of your stay with us, and also the surrounding area. Being next to Yorkville and the subway is great for our guests. The incident which occured should not have happened, and is completely avoidable. The floor staff is not supposed to let guests into the rooms, if a guest is missing their key than photo ID is required to obtain a new one. We are very happy this a worse situation was avoided. This incident has been forwarded to all staff, along with an updated hotel policy regarding entry to rooms, this situation will be avoided in the future. Thank you again for bringing this important issue to our attention. We hope that you will choose to stay with us again during your next visit to Toronto.

As a single female traveller I did wonder if I was going to be in a good location and be comfortable with my stay.... needn't have worried at all

The staff on reception were really helpful and friendly, my room was perfect for my three night stay and the location was great - a few minutes walk to the subway and safe. On one of my days I walked in to downtown Toronto, walking through the university grounds and found a fab little cafe for breakfast

I didn't eat at the hotel but I did have a drink in the pub/bar on the ground floor. Nice and friendly and again great service

Room was very clean, comfortable bed and pillows and shower great

All in all a great place to stay and would have no hesitation in going back there again on my next visit to Toronto

Thank you for your wonderful review on Tripadvisor. We always love to hear when a guest has enjoyed their trip to Toronto, and our hotel. Safety is always a big concern for female solo travellers, and we are more than happy to boast our neighbourhood as being very safe with lots to offer. Our staff is always here to help recommend desireable locations, and to help make your stay more comfortable. I stayed here for a business conference during the TIFF. The hotel was clean and the front desk staff was great. I upgraded my room to the "executive club" rooms and it was worth every penny. My room was reasonably big with a king bed, a sitting chair and a work desk. Free wifi was reliable and quite fast for hotels. The bath/shower was basic but clean and in good repair.

The room and hotel itself is actually much nicer than one might imagine from the surrounding buildings and restaurants etc.

My only "negative" was the value wasn't great during my stay because all the hotels are packed up during film feat so at almost $275 a night with taxes I thought it was a bit steep. Regular rates would be a decent value though!

Room Tip: Pay to be on the executive club floor. Rooms are bigger and recently reno'd.

We appreciate you taking the time to post your experience here on Tripadvisor. During TIFF it can be very difficult to find a good hotel, and location, we are pleased that we were able to cater to your needs. Our executive king rooms are one of our guest favorites. The rooms come with a king size bed, desk, sitting chair, a safe, and a complimentary mini fridge. These rooms are ideal for our business travellers as it can be a comfortable office substitute or a relaxing bedroom. The area is also ideal, with many restaurants and quick day trips available for the busy business person. We hope that you can stay with us again. Maybe come back for a leisure holiday? Come explore Toronto and let us take care of the rest.
