This is an excellent B&B in Stratford in every aspect. The house is beautiful with gorgeous flowers adorning the outside. The inside is very welcoming from the porch you enter through that has comfortable and plentiful seating, to the warm and caring hosts, John, Amanda, and Edward. They go out of their way to ensure you have everything you need and anticipate your needs. My parents stayed in the Avery house on the first floor in an attractive King room off the main room. We stayed next door in the second Avery house in a wonderful suite that is either for a King or two twins. As I was staying with my teen son we had the beds separated into the twins. The rooms are modern and have every amenity you could want - flat screen TV, plenty of plugs, a microwave, Keurig, fridge, cupboard with cups, plates, silverware, couch and chairs with lamps in a separate sitting area. The hosts learned we are tea drinkers so they brought over an electric kettle and ceramic tea pot with extra tea bags, without us even asking. The bathroom is very modern with a hair dryer, magnifying mirror, shelves for all your travel kits. It is the first place I've stayed that actually had enough hangers. As I'm sure other reviewers have noted, the best part is the breakfast - truly gourmet, from scratch and locally sourced. You can walk everywhere from this location - downtown, theaters, restaurants, although they also have ample parking if you prefer to drive.

Room Tip: I would suggest that if possible you request an upper floor as we could hear some walking around above us.

We recently stayed at Avery House B and B for two nights. We were warmly welcomed by Amanda and given a short tour of the house, as this was our first stay at Avery House.

The location was absolutely perfect for walking to the theatres (we saw four plays at three different theatres), restaurants and the downtown shops.

We were in The Aerie Suite, on the second floor, which was immaculately clean, very bright and very spacious. We had our own outside sitting area, beautifully decorated with colourful flower boxes, complete with lounge chairs and a table ... a perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine! Our king-size bed was so comfortable! Only the promise of a sumptuous breakfast (based on reviews by other guests) could tempt us out of bed!

John's breakfasts lived up to every positive comment that we had read. Each morning began with a choice of (either fresh or stewed) fruit, oatmeal, yogurt and John's homemade granola. This was followed by some of John's freshly baked muffins and the entrée. One morning we were served Asparagus Frittata with sausages and the other morning, we enjoyed our personal favourite, Crème Brûlée French Toast accompanied by back bacon. Both breakfasts were truly, decadently delicious!

We're so glad that we chose Avery House B and B! We look forward to staying with Amanda and John, again, on our next visit to Stratford!

Over the Canada Day weekend, my friend and I returned to Stratford to see some plays and do some shopping.
It was a little bit of a last minute plan but fortunately, we were able to stay at Avery House Boutique Bed and Breakfast, and really fortunate to get our favorite spot, the Tangerine Suite in Avery’s Inn Next Door.
Upon approaching Avery House, we were astonished by the magnificent pink flowers on the 2nd floor balcony. A stunning display, so much so that Stratford has named Avery the house with the pink necklace.
The owners, John and Amanda have made some very practical and attractive changes since our last visit. The dining room table where guests enjoy a family style breakfast has been extended to accommodate an increased number of guests. And the sunroom has been enlarged which is a comfortable place to read the paper, have a coffee, or wait for a taxi into town.
When we arrived in our room, it was very nice, cool and refreshing. We had been on the road for some time and really appreciated the cold filtered water in our fridge, and coffee from our own Keurig coffee maker. I love the beautiful dish of hand soap in the immaculate washroom with fluffy thick white towels and the very comfortable bed with velvety smooth linens.
The food at Avery House is unsurpassed both in taste, and in variety. Each morning we were surprised with one of John’s culinary creations such as frittata with asparagus, served with smoked bacon and Ontario heirloom tomatoes. And! a French dish with cherries called a clafoutis. One morning he served freshly picked Ontario raspberries (just picked up at the local farmer’s market!) served with yoghurt and granola. John really knows food. All of his creations are par excellence and every item is homemade; he smokes his own bacon, makes his own granola, homemade croissants with his own jams; everything! I really enjoy his coffee and teas. Tea is meticulously served in individual Asian metal tea pots which keep tea at a perfect temperature – something I really enjoy. We got to meet lovely guests around the breakfast table, all of us chatting about the previous day’s theatre.

The gardens at Avery House and the Inn are most impressive in colour and variety. John’s roses are simply gorgeous and each has its own unique fragrance. He created a box of field flowers to attract hummingbirds and butterflies. As we passed by this one morning, we spotted two hummingbirds! This was magic! The potted floral arrangements in the gardens are tasteful and compelling; you just have to stop and look at them. One distinct arrangement of red petunias cascading over the planter was simply breathtaking. For the most part, the weather was cooperative but when rained, we found sitting on our private veranda amidst these gorgeous flower baskets, with a glass of some white wine perfect relaxation.
If you don’t have a play on the agenda, I recommend visiting the galleries and shops to while away an afternoon. Amanda is very helpful with great tips on new shops and galleries, making reservations at restaurants and always there with a spare umbrella for unexpected downpours! She told me of two new places, Meet your Maker, featuring unique crafts from many local artisans and Wills and Prior, which sells beautiful home décor. I hardly noticed the afternoon rain in both these places. She also told us about the new “Market Square” recently built behind the Stratford City Hall where we went to enjoy Canada Day festivities.

At the end of our Stratford visit, my friend and I were so sad to leave the comfort and delight at Avery and the delicious food! We are anxious to return in the fall, and already have dates on hold for 2018.

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet, and very comfortable and are spacious.

We had a lovely third stay at the Avery House. The B & B is one of the more modernly furnished in Stratford and just a few blocks walking distance to the theaters and downtown. Our room (the Bali Suite) was large and comfortable with a porch and sitting area. Best of all are the totally homemade breakfasts including muffins/croissants/banana bread (we were there 3 nights), granola, yogurt & oatmeal followed by a protein such as eggs, quiche and Canadian bacon. Thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast conversation with the other guests. Perfect getaway for attending the Shakespeare Festival!

Our annual visit to Stratford and Avery's Inn Next Door starts long before our arrival. It starts with the newsy email we receive from John and Amanda telling us about the latest playbill for the season, reviews of the plays, and what's new on the restaurant scene in town. Once we arrive, we are always remembered, and John and Amanda go out of their way to make sure our every need and comfort is attended too. We have stayed in both the Inn and the Inn Next Door, and recommend both. Experiencing one of John's amazing breakfasts is also not to be missed!!
