Usually we hit Baan Thai for the lovely atmosphere and the lunch deal - however Pookie's offers some different dishes (northern Thai) which other places in town do not have, so we ventured back after years of not visiting. Quality is still amazing and there are SO many things on the menu. Papaya salad was a bit small but tasty - and they accommodated my wife's low spice tolerance by leaving the chilis out altogether. Chicken satay was delicious. Tom Kha Gai (coconut lemongrass soup with chicken) was perfectly fragrant without being overwhelming, with just the right touch of heat (for me anyway).
The "something different" we had was the shrimp and noodles in a clay pot (Goong Op Woon Sen, #43). Indeed a different dish, with Chinese flavour from the oyster sauce. Very nice and a welcome change from the usual Pad Thai/curry dishes.
Nua Ta Krai, #26, again was very well balanced, fragrant from the lemongrass without overwhelming the dish.
A great little family restaurant tucked away in a strip mall - worth finding!
