“Increadable view - on a clear day.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 April 2012

If you are lucky enough to visit during a clear sunny day, the view is stunning. The entire city of St.John's is spread out below you, and you can clearly see Cape Spear (the furthest point east in North America). During April to June there are often icebergs visable from the Tower. In spring and early summer there are often whales to be seen near the shore. There is a fantastic, well maintained hiking trail that runs down to the mouth of St.John's Harbour. But be prepared, there are several hundred steps between the building at the top and the lower end of the trail. There is a small but well stocked gift shop on the main floor of the tower. BUT...single biggest drawback, there are NO washroom facilities on the hiking trail and none in the tower at the summit. The closest washrooms are in the Interpretation Center located about halfway down the hill, a good 10 minute walk from the tower.

You would have to be crazy not to go here because it's so accessible and free ! Beautiful area overlooking the city. Really nice at night time too. Great for memorable photos.

“Gorgeous ocean views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 April 2012

It is a must if you are visiting St. John's. You can drive right to the top of the hill and the walk for a gorgeous view is just to the edge of the parking lot. The hiking is great but don't worry about access for a view. Depending on the time of the year you could spot whales or icebergs. The building on the top of the hill has more limited access and is usually rather cramped. If you don't stop in you didn't miss too much.
Enjoy the view!

“A historic site with a view.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 March 2012

A hike on Signal hill is a rare treat for those with strong legs. Park your car at the bottom and walk to the top for amazing city and ocean views. Once you have caught your breath, look for the signs pointing to the North Head hiking trail and descend 500 feet down to the small community known as The Battery. You will actually finish up on the front balcony of a local's house but don't worry, the residents are friendly and always up for a chat! Allow about an hour and a half for your hike. Not recommended for children as the trail can be narrow and steep but well worth it. From Battery you can walk back to the base of Signal Hill and pick up your car while those who drove to the top will have to climb the hill again! Don't make that mistake:)
