“Small cozy restaurant ...”
Reviewed 8 September 2012

Recently went back to Cafe Dario with friends - who were experiencing the restaurant for the first time. We like the idea of a fixed price menu & had difficulty deciding between the interesting choices. We each tried different appetizers and entrees - all 4 of us enjoyed our particular choices ( I tried the duck breast - which was amazing). Service was attentive/pleasant and helpful. Will definitely be back!

“Excellent dinner”
Reviewed 4 September 2012

We went to Cafe Dario with friends on August 25th and had a wonderful evening. The drinks and wine were good and the food was interesting. I had escargot to start and they were done differently than what I've had before, somewhat spicy and really good. My main course was venison which is a rarity in Winnipeg restaurants and it was fabulous. We all thoroughly enjoyed the dinner and will go back happily.

“Average food - lousy service”
Reviewed 2 September 2012

Cafe Dario advertises a 5 course meal for $35 on their website and lists menus. When you sit down, the menu is not the same (which is OK, I guess) and the price is now $39. No matter what the price, our overall experience was not a good one. We sat down and read the menu. 10 minutes later, the waitress came back, placed the napkin in our laps and asked whether she could take the drink order. The drinks arrived quickly and she ran off before we could order. Finally, 20 minutes after we arrived, she took our orders. With a first impression like this, we had a feeling that this was not going to be a good evening. This feeling was multiplied by the fact that there was a very small baby, which never ceased to cry during our 2 1/2 h "ordeal". The meal: the first dish was tiny - 2 bites - but good. The soup was tasty. The "salad" consisted of a few green leaves with a creamy sauce - not a vinaigrette as advertised. We had ordered beef tenderloin as well as rabbit. Both tenderloins were medium-rare instead of the ordered medium and medium well. The rabbit was bone-dry and consisted of 90% fat and gristle - perfect for predatory zoo animals. They were nice enough to replace this meal with a different one. The main dishes arrived a full two hours after we had arrived. Our mood had transformed from excellent to foul over the course of the evening. The service: there were two waitresses in the restaurant. This is another one of these restaurants that don't understand how important service is. Our waitress had no clue how to serve and she had a flair to ask all the wrong questions at the wrong time. She was inattentive as well as ignorant and had no obvious training. The other waitress managed to bump into me three times during the evening, while serving an adjacent table. Overall a very unpleasant experience and we will certainly not recommend this place to anybody.

“A meal to remember”
Reviewed 26 August 2012 via mobile

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary with one of the best meals we have ever had. This was our first time to Cafe Dario but have enjoyed the Maple Tree restaurant in Selkirk which is also run by Chef Dario.
I decided to let the chef decide the entire meal and enjoyed an off-menu surprise for the entree. A lovely pork/beef mixture with pepper stuffed in a fluffy pastry. My wife had the duck. Everything was outstanding. The food, the presentation....just go

“Wonderful meal”
Reviewed 24 August 2012

This is such a peculiar location for such a good restaurant - it's kind of on an industrial street. However, the interior is simple but nice and the service was nice and friendly. A 5 course meal here is a set rate of $39, which is reasonable for the quality of food. The tamales were excellent as was the trout. My wife ordered the chicken liver appetizer and duck entree, which were also very good. Flavourful meals and good presentation. Overall a very good experience.
