This hostel was once a motel. We had a private room which had once been a motel room but it was very run down, although everything still worked.
Reception was friendly and the vegetarian restaurant on the same level is excellent. The communal kitchen and lounge area were completely uninviting.
WiFi throughout the building was good.
A big plus is that the Portage Mall is located only three minutes' walk away but just as big a minus is that to get there you have to walk past a lot of poor, non-Canadian people and run a gauntlet of panhandlers.
The hostel is bordered on two sides by several high-rise, low-rent apartment blocks which house a lot of the people who use the mall.
We stayed here a week and would have done better in a motel. Don't be deceived by this hostel's rather appealing website, in reality it's a rundown dump in a bad area.
