“Great little surprise”

Indian Masala Bistro
Ranked #77 of 202 Restaurants in Whistler
Price range: US$ 11 - US$ 31
Description: An elite Indian fine dining restaurant located within Hilton Hotel in the heart of whistler and base of Whistler Gondola. My Philosophy with food is that every Indian food is made delicious with the addition of herbs and spices during preparation. India is well known as land of spices and Yogis. Every spice has its Own medicinal value which is highly beneficial for this modern living and cooking. We use these spices to enhance the flavors of food as well as for a healthy living. We also use the black Himalayan salt which is unpolluted, unrefined and mineral rich. These foods are complemented with the right wine pairing and it enhances the wine and the food. Some of the lighter wines like a Sauvignon Blanc would be enhanced with lighter appetizers and basic food.

Suffering from jet lag, we were struggling to stay awake and decided to eat early so arrived just after 5pm. Despite the hour, we weren’t the first to arrive but nonetheless we found a table straight away. Service was prompt and smiling. Meals are served with rice, naan and dessert included. The variety of dishes is much more limited than we are used to at home but the bhuna gosht and prawn palak were delicious. Fresh spices and lots of flavour. My partner loved the naan and the kulfi was rich and sweet. Great job and happy customers!

What a nice surprise to eat at this restaurant we arrived in time to not have to queue.

The food was very tasty and there was more than enough! The kids loved there food not too spicy for them.

Once again the service was really good, overall a great place to eat.

We discovered this restaurant on our first trip to Whistler 2 years ago. With fond memories we returned. The food was delicious. Full of flavour. Staff friendly and helpful. The set price per person made the evening easy as we were 2 families. The fish curry, butter chicken and chicken korma are standout dishes as is the Dahl. We will be back again for our 4th visit before we leave Whistler.

We dined at Masala Indian restaurant twice during our stay in Whistler. The staff were really quite attentive and lovely. The food was delicious. Great atmosphere! The children enjoyed the butter chicken. Masala have a good vegetarian selection... different variations of paneer. I was disappointed in the wine selection. Very limited. But if food is what you are after then this is the place to be.

Arrived without a reservation but were seated with no issue.
Myself and my husband both ordered a beer which came in different sized glasses (but the charge for each was the same!) my daughter had a sprite which was mostly ice, at no point were we offered refills or asked if we wanted to order additional drinks.
The menu offers a main course with plain rice, plain ma’am and a dessert for a fixed price - there is no apparent alternative to this ‘offer’. The waiter promptly took our order, after commenting we were English so would want chicken tikka masala! We ordered starters of chicken pakora and a palak paneer dish, both were lovely. Main courses arrived and were tiny, after a days skiing six pieces of chicken in a dish (not tikka masala) is not enough. Husband had upgraded to pilau rice (charged an extra $3) and a peshwari naan, which he was was charged in full for. Didn’t have dessert as daughter was very tired and Indian desserts not really our thing. Service was abysmal, abrupt to the point of rude. Whilst drinks were being served to the table next to us the tray was put on our table, and knocked off, and when we asked for the bill were given it by the waiter who stood there with the card machine before we had chance to open it. Overall food tasty but i am surprised portion size and the weird two course menu haven’t had much comment previously, worst value meal have had in Whistler!
