“Fairmont GOLD!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 March 2012

Absolutely fantastic! My wife and I enjoyed 'part 1' of our honeymoon here this past weekend. After getting to our room I decided that we'd like to splurge with an upgrade. The original room was fine, but for our honeymoon I wanted something more special. After calling front desk we were given our upgrade options and after choosing we were quickly moved up to the Fairmont Gold level on the 8th floor. Nice room with fireplace, great view of the mountains and close access to the concierge lounge. Complimentary hors d'oeuvre's and breakfast was a nice touch. The ski valet service and location next to the lifts that take you to some of the best ski terrain on the planet is great as other reviews have mentioned.

I was torn between a 3 and a 4 star rating; I would rate this hotel a 3.5. I ultimately chose a 4 because of the location and ski valet/storage. The location can't be beat - walk out of the hotel and up the stairs and the lift line is right there. They do a great job of taking your ski gear at arrival and getting it stored downstairs; pick up in the a.m. is easy, as is drop off.

In terms of the room, the size was fine, beds and pillows were decent, but on a whole it could use some spurcing up. The shower was small, there was mold on the ceiling, the grout in the bathroom could use a good cleaning, the wallpaper under the sink was peeling off the wall and some of the furniture was chipped. Also, soap and shampoo wasn't provided every day, the towels were average (not super soft/fluffy) and there were no bathrobes in the room.

Lattes downstairs at Portobello were good; the hot breakfast there I'd skip the next time around.

The bar in the restaurant is nice if the afternoon (and has a lovely patio to use if it's sunny out) but it is quite loud at night. It could use one area being cordoned off a bit so you could talk to the person next to you.

Also, I booked through Whistler reservations and they messed up delivery of my ski tickets. They should have been at the hotel, but didn't make it there - which meant I had to schlep to the Day Lodge to get my tickets the first day. If the deals are the same, book through the hotel directly; they will take responsibility for getting the tickets if you do (but the concierge was helpful in tracking down where my tickets ended up).

The Fairmont Chateau Whistler is one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed at. The staff are super friendly, there's complimentary coffee and tea, high speed Internet, complimentary WiFi for President's Club members...the list goes on and on. The ski valet is really efficient, and the Wizard Express chair on Blackcomb is steps away from the hotel. The interior decor on the guest floors could use some updating though, and a major uh oh that I found was a few hairs on my bed the first couple nights. I wouldn't expect this from Fairmont.

Room Tip: Lower floors can be loud from both other guests and melting snow and ice falling off the roof. Try a...

We stayed at the Fairmont for 3 days over an extended weekend ski-trip and absolutely loved it. Its ski-in, ski-out which is so convenient. We checked-in our gear at the Ski Valet. The lifts are barely 50 steps outside the double-doors from the Valet. My wife wanted to pick up a snack between runs and ts so easy to pop into your room before getting on the lifts again!
Another thing I'd recommend - the hot tubs outside. Nothing beats sitting in the hot tub with a beer and the cool crisp air outside. We'll definitely stay here again on our next trip to Whistler Blackcomb.

Great Place to Bond with Family. My teenagers loved it! All outdoor activities included the whole family. We plan to go back.
