Mackerel never tasted so wonderful. Try it instead of the beautiful tempura or the fancy yam sushi. The seafood chowder is back too. Have some.

Have you heard that the restaurant is expanding to a few more tables---probably so the regulars can get in

New treat is the teeny plates Combination---offered at both lunch and dinner. Yesterday mine included perfect mackerel, chicken, sprouts, prawns, agadashi tofu, special mushrooms, rice and miso soup, and a perfect teeny carrot-flower

And the service is friendly and classy.

Return return return---the front door is on Sutlej Street at the bottom of Cook Street Don't miss it because of the unhelpful mailing address. Watch for the sidewalk board just off Cook Street on Sutlej street.

Return return return---you don't have to wait long for additions to the menu

Great new addition to Cook Street Village. Airy, modern décor, food delicious and beautifully presented (presentation looks just like the pics already posted online!) friendly service, great prices. It started getting busy around 6, but the good thing is you can make reservations, AND soon they are expanding to another 15 seats. Now on my new favourite Go To list!

Wonderful to see that The Next has a Trip Advisor rating as #1. It is well deserved. Not only is standard fare raised to perfection at this spot in the heart of Cook Street village----its new offerings are unparalleled----like avocado tempera

Order anything to enjoy your lunch or dinner. It's all wonderfully done

Love sushi restaurants and, so far, this is my favourite in Victoria. Prefer the lunch-time menu and staff: the combination plates and bento boxes then are a major deal. The all-out bento binge @$17.00 will fill the hungriest of diners. It includes a generous piece of salmon teriyaki served on a small bed of noodles, assorted sashimi and prawn and vegetable tempura also comes with miso soup, a generous maki roll and a vegetable side dish.
The only time we were less than delighted (as the salmon in my companion's bento box was over-cooked) was when we went in the evening.
Can't speak to the prices for beverages as we've made due with water. Other reviewers who complain that the tea is exorbitantly priced at $2.00 (really?) should perhaps do the same.

Stumbled upon this hidden restaurant on Cook Street while renting an airbnb home in the Fairfield neighborhood of Victoria. Was a rainy day and I tucked in to get out of the chill. Was busy and a mix of locals were eating.
Menu was varied and interesting. Service was fast and excellent. Lady next to me was enjoying a soup dish that smelled and looked great!
I tried the pork Katsu dish and the vegetable tempura. Excellent flavors! Lots of food and so I took leftovers home and enjoyed it as much the next day!
Everyone looked very content and pleased with their food choices. I wish we had a place like this close by in Scottsdale !
