“So friendly, so tasty, sooo good!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 February 2012

On our budget it qualifies as a "special dinner", but we have always gone home agreeing that the cost is well worth it. Seasonal, local ingredients, fresh homemade charcuterie and pasta and pickles, and of course exceptional menu items evoking old-world comfort. Recently we had an arctic char gravlax amuse-bouche, seared scallops in saffron-lemon butter, and duck on beet-infused couscous. Yum. Their vanilla-bean creme brulee is second-to-none. Service is always fantastic, and they are never shy to recommend a wine pairing from their extensive list. Stop thinking about it, just go.

No better place for dinner in Victoria...hosts, Greg and Sylvia are exceptional and everything about the restaurant is first class.

“Rude, Pretentious, Poor Service!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 February 2012

Already having had a poor dining experience about two years ago I was reluctant to return to Cafe Brio. The couples that we were with wanted to try it though, one couple having been a few times prior, and one couple not having been before. We were disappointed with the poor, neglectful service overall and value of meal compared to price spent. There are way better restaurants to go to in Victoria that you wont get that horrible, neglectful, pretentious service! I had the scallop entree and it was a poor excuse for an entree. Three measly scallops, under-seasoned, served with a cauliflower mash - not recommended! Other meals had at the table seemed to be better portions but all agreed not worth money spent. I sent a long list of concerns to the owner and I never heard from him. I don't know of any place, this day in age (until now I suppose), that would not respond to customer feedback - good or bad! If this place once had a great reputation, then good for them, but I can say that they are clearly resting on their pretentious laurels. In my opinion they should no longer be able to call themselves a great Victoria restaurant. Victorians should demand better quality and service and hopefully this information can help you choose a better location to go. Go to Lure, Ferris' Upstairs, Bon Rouge, Il Terrazo, Tapa Bar, Vista 18 - go anywhere but Cafe Brio! These places wont treat you like dirt and then take hundreds of dollars from you.

“Best Restaurant Experience I Have Ever Had”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 January 2012

The dining room is fun, the staff are fun, the nightly specials include a recommended wine by the bottle, and they certainly know how to make a date into a giddy, romantic experience.

Went to Cafe Brio around 7:30 and stayed 'til nearly 11. Cafe Brio has full plates for around $32, but offers half plates around $16. This is a great idea. Over the course of our luxurious stay, my girlfriend and I delighted in 4-5 half plates of sable fish, bison, lamb, salads, everything. We had gelato for dessert: house-made apple champagne gelato. Apple champagne gelato!!!

With a beer list supporting local breweries and a stunning wine list - including a nightly specially-priced wine recommendation - Cafe Brio is certainly one for the lovers.
