“mixed feelings - breakfast only included from October to mid may”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2012

My husband and I booked with Black Ball Ferry Lines a special package for Memorial Day Weekend (boat trip from Port Angeles to Victoria BC, 1 night at Days Inn and trip back to Port Angeles).

I took time to choose a hotel and in the end we went for Days Inn because of the great location. Also because we understood a free continental breakfast was included.

When you look at the pictures you think you'll have a room with a view of the harbour, It turned out that the packages do not offer rooms on the harbour. When I realized that, I contacted Days Inn and asked if it was possible to have a room with a view. I received a very nice and helpful answer, saying that although packages booked through Black Ball Ferry are all based on the residential side (not mentionned anywhere on the ferry co.'s website...) they would be more than happy to put in a request for a harbour view.

When we got to the hotel, we were very grateful to get a room with a view. So we really appreciated that.

After dinner, we had a short swim in the outdoor heated pool (which wasn't the cleanest - leaves floating, dirt, etc... but still ok) and whirlpool (which was really too HOT, not possible to adjust temperature).

Walls are pretty thin. Could hear next door neighbour snoring in the night, and other side neighbours had an early start (heard their shower at 5.30 AM..., it's not so much the shower noise in itself that bothered me but the pipes seemed to be trembling - noticed that when we showered too- heat problem ?).

When we went down to the restaurant for breakfast, and asked what we wanted to order, we were confused (there was supposed to be a free continental breakfast !). Although the waiter was very kind, listened and tried to figure out the misunderstanding, the front desk told us quite bluntly that there was no breakfast included, like this was some weird idea ! When I insisted, I was told (by the same person) that, yes, breakfast is included from october to May 15th (it was May 28th). I was upset, not knowing if I had not read the package's detailed info or if it was Black Ball Ferry that didn't inform well, etc... Again, because I insisted, the front desk person said they'd call Black Ball Ferry to make sure.

We ordered our breakfast around 35 CAD with tax for 2 (the food was pretty good, and great waiter), and were later told by the front desk person that Black Ball Ferry had confirmed the breakfast deal was until May 15th...

Would we come back ? Not sure. Maybe. It is really well located, rooms are clean, modern. I just wish the front desk person would have been nicer.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write about your recent stay with us. I am so sorry to hear of the miscommunication, and lack of understanding, for our complimentary continental breakfast which runs in the off season. We have been in contact with BlackBall Coho ferry and they are still looking into it as well so as it doesn't happen with any future guests. We're glad you enjoyed the view from your guest room and the outdoor heated pool - with it being outdoors sometimes nature does get into too...And we hope you'll give us another opportunity with your accommodations in the future! Thank you again.

We booked here because a friend told us it was a good deal but were a little unsure as it seemed cheap for a nice Hotel in Victoria and realy cheap for a Harbour View. Well it exceeded all our expectations and is a great place to stay and be. It is in the middle of everything and comes with free parking and Wi Fi included. We had a king size bed could throw a rock and hit the harbour water and the room even had extras we did not order or need such as a fridge and microwave. Room was clean and Hotel was very nice and the staff went out of the way to deal with everthing if you needed it. Now there are two small things if you are very picky. The room was warm during the day as although the Hotel has A/C the room does not. We stayed in early May so not a real big deal but it might be in July. There is also a bar in the front of the Hotel so if you have a Harbour View room it is a little loud until late in the evening. That is not a complaint just a note of what to expect. The windows open and there is a fan and I am on a holladay so can stay up late. Great place to stay and very very good value.

Room Tip: Harbour View

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your review on Trip Advisor. We are thrilled that you enjoyed our hotel. We are quite lucky that our ideal location allows our guests to be in the heart of downtown; close to shopping, sightseeing, of course the Convention Centre - and as you mentioned a stones throw from the Inner Harbour! Thank you again for taking the time to post this review and we look forward to welcoming you again in the future.

Having looked around quite a bit at hotels in the inner harbour area of Victoria, the Days Inn seems to by far the best balance between price and quality. The location is hard to beat, just around the corner from the Empress. The room was good sized and clean. Hotel has a busy restaurant/lounge in it along with a pool which I didn't have a chance to use. There are nicer places around if you want to spend the money, but for value this is the place.

We chose to stay at the Days Inn because of it's fabulous location and reasonable price - and because of the reviews on TripAdvisor. We were particularly impressed that the hotel manager replied to each comment on TripAdvisor personally - good or bad. A definite plus in customer service for us!

The hotel has a great location, right downtown on the Inner Harbour. A short walk to shopping, great restaurants and sight-seeing. Our room was a tad on the small side, but we were not concerned. Bed was comfortable, wifi was free, parking was free, room was equipped with everything we needed, including a view of the harbour!

Front desk staff person was courteous and price was definitely great! We would not hesitate to return to Days Inn on the Harbour!

Room Tip: Waterfront rooms have a lovely view of the harbour

This hotel is just average, but some rooms do have a great views of the harbour. Did not like the step into the bathroom, if you are a senior it could be dangerous. Clean enough, and not bad for value as the location is very good. The staff were friendly, and the restaurant has good deals
even two for one lunches & dinners.

Room Tip: Do ask for the rooms with a view, as you could be given a view of the parking lot.
