If you're a writer in need of a break from your office, pop down to the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver and grab a big pot of tea and a ring side seat. A great place to write. Friendly staff and supurb people watching.

Classic quality city hotel with super efficient friendly staff. We were one of five couples who enjoyed our Vancouver 3 night stay. First class room and service. It was nice playing with the two friendly dogs that are resident in the lobby. Looked forward to seeing them in the passing.

Room Tip: Jokingly asked for sea view and allocated a beautiful room on 11th floor Yes it had a sea view just.

It looked like the original and the best, build for a king and queen (though ironically they never ended up staying) without costing a king’s ransome. This was what attracted us to the Vancouver Hotel (its original name), plus the convenience of its location which was to be a base to explore the city for a couple of days.

First impressions are opulent: if you wanted high-end designer shops in the four corners of the lobby (we didn’t), you’ve come to the right place. The vibe was softened slightly by the hotel dog, who graciously allowed himself to be petted. No problem with the check in procedure; quick and efficient, they quickly changed us to an interconnected family room when my son decided to join. Rooms were well appointed, although I’ve seen bigger in North America as standard. WiFi turned out to be free if you joined a club (found this out just before paying for it). The deal we were on didn’t include breakfast, so we never got to go to the restaurant, but in a city full of Pacific and Asian cuisine this was probably a bonus.

Pool and fitness centre did the trick - though didn’t have the wow factor, they were very welcome when we ducked back to the hotel after getting soaked cycling around Stanley Park. Vancouver is WET, and the hotel supplies umbrellas (although beware, they charge $30 if they don’t get them back!)

Highly recommended and memorable - would stay again if back in town.

Our stay on the Gold floor at the Vancouver Hotel was a restful, pampered experience. I have twins and was exhausted from the demand. A couple of days of rest and care at The Vancouver Hotel was just what I needed. Remember, Gold Floor experience!!!!
