“Great value for the location”
Reviewed 2 June 2012 via mobile

Great experience with the Kingston while in town for a conference. Central location, right by Vancouver City Central Station and major bus routes. Stayed in a basic, single room. Small, but not cramped, with a very comfortable bed, good sized desk, and small closet. While the room did have a basin, bathrooms are shared, but did not have an issue finding a free shower, and everything was immaculately clean. Private sauna room was a pleasant surprise. Staff were friendly and helpful, especially when I had some issues during check-in due to a mixup with my credit card company (ALWAYS tell your CC company if you're travelling overseas!). Breakfast provided was basic, but sufficient, and a plesant change to the protein heavy breakfasts you have hoisted on you some places. Great pub next door, not a problem with noise even with construction works going on nearby. Probably not the place to stay if you will be spending a lot of time in your room, but I found it perfect for being out-and-about. Would stay again!

Let me preface this with saying, that it takes a lot for a place to turn me off. I generally write good reviews about places I’ve stayed, even if everything wasn’t to my liking. If a problem was beyond the control of the staff, I accept it and am grateful that they try to fix the problem, or do what they can to make my stay more enjoyable. The Kingston was different. The staff went out of their way to make things difficult, do nothing, and make me feel unwelcome.
Without going on in great detail of my experience there were 2 highlights – the staff & the room. When I arrived, there was an issue with the rate that was quoted to me when I made the reservation, and the front desk staff had neither desire nor motivation to get it sorted out. Their attitudes were flippant, and told me to take it up with the manager. He would only be around the following morning. The following morning they rate was sorted out with the manager, and he said it would be noted on my account. Three days later when I went to check out, a new face greeted me at the desk, and he said there was nothing noted. I retold the entire story and explained that I was a bit hurried to catch a flight. The staffer told me I should plan my time better. Seriously??
The room itself was nice, but there was problem with the shower not being attached to the wall and asked the manager to have this fixed. The manager’s response - they are too busy. So busy that housekeeping couldn’t make up my room.
I travel a great deal on business and see the insides of many hotels. I have never encountered such ignorant service from a hotel. I thought this would be a fun experience, in quaint boutique hotel in Vancouver….I was mistaken.

It is definitely a budget hotel but you can't beat the location - 2 blocks from Yaletown restaurants and round the corner from Robson St. The rooms are quite small and the bed was a double but very comfortable. The shared bathrooms did not cause a problem - there was always one available when we needed one. The hotel has an old world feel about it in it's furnishings and decor but all very well maintained. The building next door was not a problem as they worked during the day when we were out.

Stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. Usually, we prefer a centrally located reasonably priced hotels. It was our criteria this time as well. Unfortunately, except the perfect location everything else was below expectations. Yes, during the booking we were informed that the hotel is between a construction site and public parking under renovations. So, whatever side of the building your room is it would be noisy. However, noise is not the biggest problem we experienced there. Start with the smell of carpet in the room. Furniture was very dusty. Queen-size bed was maximum double-bed and uncomfortable. Central heating was ON and could not be controlled in the room (with +20C and sunny days out-side). Open the window and you would understand where all the dust is coming from. We asked the maid to clean dust couple of times, but without success. The hotel personnel was not very helpful and could not give better suggestions than just go to Robson street and find what you want.
I feel it's very unfortunate situation that the hotel is between two construction sites and it creates extra-problems (and it should be like that for another 12-15 months). So, I would expect extra efforts from the personnel to keep visitors satisfied. Instead the hotel just dropped prices... Unfortunately, together with level of service... :-(

Just spent two nights at the end of a West Coast cruise and was totally impressed. It is exactly what it claims to be-- a small, comfortable hotel in downtown. It's an easy walk to Gastown and Stanley Park Just two short blocks from the Town Center train station, it's an easy schlep with wheelie luggage to and from either the cruise port or airport. Many and varied eateries close by. Small, well maintained rooms, free-use computer, light but good continental breakfast, and small TV lounge for watching and wine-sipping. Adjacent "pub" was good, too. Friendly, excellent staff headed by the always helpful and cheerful Sean. Sure, there are more impressive places to stay-- but not for this kind of money. Would stay there again in a heartbeat.
