“Quiet and Central”
Reviewed 21 September 2011

I liked staying in HI Vancouver-Downtown. The Showers were clean. The rooms were comfortable. The staff was very helpful. You could get free clean towels from the front desk every day. The breakfast was complimentary. There were juice, coffee, bagels, jam, muffins, cerials etc.

Vancouver is a beautiful town. From the hostel it's not far to one of the beaches. Just around the corner is a bus-stop. Stanley Park is beautiful.

I would definitley stay in this hostel again.

I stayed one night here with my partner in a private room and we were both happy. The room isn't all that beautiful but come on, it's a hostel! The staff were friendly - not too overbearing and in-your-face cranky like some places I've stayed. The free breakfast was good enough (fruit, instant oatmeal, bagels, toast, juice, coffee) and the kitchen was large. I would stay here again^^

Very good hostel, clean and friendly. We picked this hostel as a quieter alternative and it was - so if you're after big nights out don't stay here.

Breakfast was good, free wifi, nice outdoor seating, showers great. Good location.

We just got back from staying at the HI in Vancouver. We had been in Seattle and Victoria, but this was the best. The location is close to Stanley Park and Granville Island. It is close to yummy reasonable restaurants in a tree filled neighborhood. We took a couple of the tours offered, which enhanced our trip. The breakfast was free with outdoor seating for eating or just enjoying the sound of seagulls and the view. Thank you to the staff for offering such a reasonable pleasurable experience. Thank you for caring!

My sons and I recently stayed at here for a weekend getaway (we took the Amtrak up from Portland). If you want to get a great experience of the city, within walking or easy public transit to everything in the City, then try out the hostel. We stayed in the men's/women's dorms, but if you want to get a family dorm for a larger group that is an option too - it just costs more.

Hosteling is a fun way to meet lots of different people as well - besides us there were visitors from Germany, Ireland, England, Spain and of course other Canadians and Americans. The hostel rents bike for a minimal per day fee, which is a great way to get around to see the city. I recommend you get a one-day pass for the public transit system which not only lets you get around on Vancouver's great public buses, but also allows you to ride the Skytrain. You can purchase passes at the hostel as well.

The hostel provides a daily continental breakfast, you just need to be prepared to do your own dishes. There is also a full kitchen if you want to cook your own lunch or dinner, or store snacks in the refrigerator. The showers/baths were not fancy, but clean and certainly adequate. You can purchase a small lock for the lockers to store your valuables, or you can bring your own lock. I do recommend you bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper - part of the "fun" of hosteling is that you never know what kind of roommate you might get!
