So here is the score on this hotel - There are 'New' rooms (that are perfectly acceptable) and 'old' rooms which look quite unacceptable. We were lucky enough to get a new room 216. Everything in the room was new, the bed was very comfortable, Bathroom was perfectly acceptable for a budget hotel. We were extremely concerned with the reviews on tripadvisor about bed bugs and I actually talked to the manager about it and he reassured me, said they had problems in the past but that there would be no bugs and I had a check when I got to the room as well - bed bug free! The stairs weren't as much as a problem as we had heard... So everything was satisfactory. Remember though - this is a budget hotel - in a awesome location so don't expect luxury. Aside from the rooms, the staff were absolutely lovely, helped us whenever possible, and very friendly. I don't exactly know how to score this hotel - I probably would've rated it ALOT differently if we were in one of the horrible old rooms so .. opt for a new one!! As well the occasional noisey guest is a problem as well - it being a budget hotel gets alot of partiers.. we had one night we were kept up - literally all night by the room across the way but one night out of a four .. the other 3 nights were very peaceful!

Room Tip: ask for a 'newer' room. The old ones look horrible!!!

This hotel was a last minute substitute for the Patricia Hotel which was a complete and utter dump which I gave 1 star on trip advisor.
The Barclay Hotel was a step up from the terrible category to the poor category.
We stayed here 1 night. It is very dated and small. The cleanliness was below average. The location is ok. (Depending where you want to go obviously).
If you want the bars a bit more trendy with good restaurants you need to be in Yale town.
There is parking. Can't remember how much it cost. It was no more than $10 per night.
This hotel would be best suited for a solo male that needs a cheap head down for the night.
I wouldn't recommend for couples, family or friends.

This hotel was really well situated on Robson Street so if restaurants and shopping are your thing then you're in a good spot. It's a fairly touristy area, the red shuttle trolleys stop across the street to tour you around town and since it's fairly central you're close to most all of the destinations.

Now for the "mediocre comfort" part. Our particular room, I believe, was the cheapest room in this hotel so consider that when reading this. (We walked around the hotel and peeked in a few other more expensive rooms and they looked much bigger and nicer). Our room was the smallest hotel I've ever stayed in; there was barely enough room for the bed and very little walking around space. The bathroom was also very small and in some places there was some minor damage (broken floor tiles). The room did seem clean, but my biggest complaint was the bed. It was very hard and sunken in right in the middle. No matter what you tried, you'd always end up rolling back in - kind of like sleeping in a bowl. The TV was broken and made everyone's head look huge and there is also no elevator so pack light. Am I complaining? Sort of but not really - it's good for seeing Vancouver on a budget and if we wanted luxury we'd stay up the street at one of the big towers and pay double.

The service was actually quite good; the man at the front desk did not speak much English but he was friendly and when our toilet got stuck he offered to come up and plunge it (to which I basically said, thanks but I think I should do it myself). Also, the man downstairs in the lounge actually offered to warm up some leftovers for us in his microwave in the back - he didn't have to do that and I think he went above and beyond the call of duty.

I'd probably look into staying here again, but I would opt for a larger room and hope the bed isn't a bowl-bed.

Room Tip: Pack light - there's no elevator and if you're in the really cheap/small room, you won't...

Could have paid same amount for better quality at airport or North Vancouver but was persuaded to stay downtown. As we were on a budget this meant compromising but this hotel was ideal due to great location. Rooms were ok - don't book if you want luxury - just clean and comfortable. Air con was needed but was like a tractor so good job we are heavy sleepers.

No lifts so a bind getting luggage to room on 2nd floor.

Reception staff were great - welcoming/ friendly and helpful. This feature, low cost and location made the stay perfect for us. A short walk from all the best of Vancouver - 2 doors down from bike rental and amidst shops etc. Parking (unsecured) on site for small fee

Spent 5 days here and thought it was great value for money. Staff were friendly and the rooms clean and well furnished. Location is also perfect- right on Robson Street, the main shopping street but at the same time there was no problem with noise. Breakfast is not included but can be bought for a reasonable price - although breakfast was average and there are probably better alternatives at nearby cafes. Hotel staff were always very helpful
