“Upgrade on their own”
Reviewed 29 February 2012

I reserved via "priceline.com" as two adults, the first time, Jan., I stayed twin queen with one of my colleagues, but, this time, they charged $15 per day.
I cannot understand their policy.

Your upgrade in January was a courtesy upgrade as the room you had reserved was not available due to a stay over. When you contacted the hotel the night before you mentioned to the agent that you might have 3 people traveling with you and that an upgrade to a 2 bedded room would be necessary, along with an upgrade charge. This was also stated to you when you checked in and you were not sure if the 3rd person was coming. I caution you in the future that 2 adults does not mean 2 beds. I hope this clears up our policies on the priceline double bed rooms.

We stayed there this past weekend.

The Room: I appreciated reading other reviews so we asked for a higher floor to avoid the traffice noise and that worked out well. Of course we heard noises from other rooms but they were minimal and nothing to contact the front desk about. The "mountain view" is really a view of downtown with some mountains in the distance. The "English Bay" view is really a view of a sliver of English Bay. One thing which was really puzzling was the queen-size mattress put on top of a full size box spring. I rolled right out of bed onto the floor because a full six inches of the side of the bed was unsupported by anything. The room was average. The bathroom was also average with the typical slow-draining tub. Ankle deep in water by the time I finished washing my hair. Adored the soft, creamy soap and the tea lotion.

The Location: You can't beat the proximity to English Bay and an amazing assortment of little restaurants. So many cultures represented! We walked for a minute and were at English Bay which is really very pretty. Transit is right outside the front door. A Safeway grocery store is a few blocks away, well within walking distance. McDonalds is about the same. Stanley Park is mere minutes away by car, as is Lion's Gate Bridge which takes you to Grouse Mountain.

Stanley Park: What a lovely park. HUGE drawback is the fee for parking ANYWHERE in the park at ANY time. It isn't overly expensive but it's a fee nonetheless. During the winter you shouldn't count on horse-draw tours or the mini train, naturally, but in nice weather you can still get a nice walk or relaxing bench meditation in. Plenty of people jogging and walking around the lovely waterfront.

All in all it was a decent hotel with a great location.

Room Tip: Ask for top floor.

Thank you for taking the time to send us a review. I believe that your bed had a memory foam topper on the queen size mattress and the foam must of shifted to the side. I do appoligize for this and I will have a look at it. We would not be following Best Western standards if it was any other way..
Our location being only a few blocks away from the entrance to Stanley Park, allows you to leave the car here in our parking lot and spend the day strolling in the park. You are able to walk around the entire sea wall from the hotel in just over 2 hours. This would cut down on the cost of parking in the park. I do hope we will see you again soon.

Having stayed at the Sands in Vancouver a few times in the past 2 years, it is the most beautiful location on English Bay in the West End of Vancouver. The Best Western prices for this location are amazing and they have a great little restaurant on site with very good food and prices as well. We have found the service to be very accomodating and this has become our regular hotel for staying in the Vancouver area. You can't beat the sea wall, restaurants and shopping, in this area - not to mention that fantastic ocean view!

Room Tip: I find the south side of the hotel noisey due to traffic, but we always request a room on the north...

We stayed there from jan-12 to jan-19 / 2012. The hotel is Very clean, in an excellent location near Stanley Park and downtown. The staff at the front desk were very helpful.

There are many restaurants, grocery stores, supermarkets (Safeways and Nofrills) around.

All in all a nice hotel, great location, nice rooms, nice staff, good food and good value!

I stayed 3 nights as a stopover to look around Vancouver. Good location near Stanley park and English Bay. Very helpful and polite staff. I liked the shops and restaurants in the local streets. Easy to use the buses to get about (or walk). I'd stay here again if I return.
