We have recently returned from a driving tour around the Rocky Mountains - Vancouver to Whistler, through Prince George to Jasper, then Lake Louise, Calgary, Banff, Kamloops and back to Vancouver! We downloaded Apps on to my iPhone, and WOW! It was so worth the little money for 6 Apps! Once downloaded (which I did from Australia before we left) we didn't need to have the Mobile Data or Data Roaming on at all. We had a conventional GPS, but this little machine gave us hints and invaluable information along the way, making it an enjoyable drive along roads and we were able to take side trips which we would never have known about!

So if travelling along those routes in a car, download some apps or hire the unit as a GPS! Well worth the small amount paid for a high "free" bit of enjoyment!

My wife and I hired the GyPSy Guide in Vancouver for our tour from Vancouver, Kelowna, Banff, Jasper, Sun Peaks, Whistler & back to Vancouver. We found the guide invaluable, did not miss a highlight and would never have known where to stop at sightseeing points of interest without it.
It is not a conventional GPS. The research that must have been done to obtain the commentary must have taken years. In a nutshell, do not attempt to do The Rocky Mountains without GyPSy.

I would first like to say that this is a great idea and still worth using as it allows you to tour at your pace. Now onto the bad stuff (BOOOOO) The guide itself does not indicate you are off course so you have to pay attention to either the directions or the map on the tiny screen yourself (this is no easy task when you are driving around in a very unfamiliar city) also the guide does not take into consideration construction and road changes, so once again it can be challenging to use at times. Now I will say when it is working it is great; it is like having a tour guide in your own car, and the commentary is kept to a minimum. The other big problem is the place you have to get the guide and the people dispensing the product; they need to be trained better as it seemed they were unfamiliar with the product and when I went to return it was forced to train one of their employees (I wasn't aware I was on the payroll) I would use this again and recommend it to my other friends but wish they would work on the items I indicated.

Last year I rented Gypsy guide in Banff area and loved it, so I decided to try it again in Vancouver and on Vancouver Island. Price was $40/day for the rental and we rented it for 3 days. The concept is a talking GPS that tells you what you are seeing as you pass by locations, or for a city tour it also provides turn-by-turn directions. They are coming out with an App that you can use on your own GPS phone which will be great - because the biggest negative of renting the Gypsy is that you must pick it up and drop it off at certain locations during normal business hours. Hopefully the App allows you to use it for more than 24 hours.

We used it for the "Sea to Sky" road trip. This was just "ok", although it did recommend 2 different stops along the way which we really enjoyed. We also used it for the "Vancouver city" tour, and loved it for that. It successfully navigated across the city to different locations that we never would have been able to find as easily. It provided alot of color commentary that my parents found particularly interesting. It really is like being on a tour bus, but you can choose the locations to stop and those that you want to avoid.

I would highly recommend this for the Vancouver and North Vancouver tours if you only have a day to look around, or if you don't want to bother with trying to read a map.
