We stayed in the room that had 2 single beds (as requested) for 4 nights in August.. The room was on the 2nd floor and right across from the bathroom. Unfortunately one of the showers was still broken (as previous reviewer mentioned), but I was still able to access the working shower without long line ups.
I would have to say that dollar for dollar ($109/night) it is well worth the money. My only suggestion would be if you don't need two single beds to reserve a double bed room (small room at $109 but had an open window facing east) or if you needed two beds to reserve the room that has a double and single bed for $129 (once again facing east and a larger room). Our room with 2 singles was in the middle of the house and one of the windows did not open (faced the smokers/computer room) and the other window could only be opened slightly as pigeons were on the ledge (and the next door building was very, very close). I found the room very warm as the temperatures were 28 plus when we were in Vancouver. I think though that the middle room would be fine when you didn't want to have the window open in the night.
Will and Kate were very helpful and pleasant. The kitchen was stocked for breakfast and guests could make their own meals throughout the day if they brought their own food.
I liked how the hideaway was close to the skytrain and buses and it was very easy to find.
I would stay here again if i was travelling alone or with another adult.
And yes, there is some peeling paint. but the building is a very old downtown structure. Everything was very clean.
It was enjoyable meeting the other guests and sharing stories.
