B&B at Salt Spring Apple Company
Reviewed 3 May 2012

This is my second time visiting this B&B, and it's great! The best part is, it's on a brand new apple orchard, with hundreds of new trees being planted, including many heritage varieties. The owners are passionate about their apple venture - be sure to ask to see the orchard. They are very friendly, and provided a fabulous breakfast as well as lots of great advice about what to see and do on Saltspring. The beds are comfortable, and having a kitchen is a bonus. Make sure to try out Saltspring Apple Company B&B.

Thank you for your review!

We are passionate about our apples! -- and are happy that you were interested in looking more closely at our orchard.

We've enjoyed your company on both of your visits and hope that you will come to stay again soon.

I have now stayed at this wonderful B&B twice and would not hesitate to return. The friendly owners provide deluxe breakfasts including home baking and of course delicious apples in some form or another. The view of the ocean and Mt Baker is stunning. It was an easy walk to town for the fantastic Saturday market. Comfortable bed, quiet and very clean. Having access to a guest kitchen was a bonus.

This is an excellent B and B. My two favourtie features were the view and the breakfasts. The hosts were also very helpful re things to do and see.

The location is perfect - close enough that you can walk (about 20 minutes) into the main shops but far enough away that it is quiet and peaceful. It was a very comfortable place to just relax and hang out and look at the view or play one of the many games provided. There is a full kitchen and each suite has its own bathroom.

Room Tip: Next time, we will try the larger suite that has either one bedroom and a living area with a pull ou...

We are happy that you had a good first B&B experience, and that you found our accommodations comfortable and relaxing.

We hope you do come back to stay in our self-contained studio some time soon. We think you would find it equally comfortable and suited to quality family time together.

This was my first B&B experience. I'm used to the free breakfasts hotels and motels offer, so I was blown away by the breakfast we got here. Two different (and ample) ones on two different mornings. Both times were excellent and I had to stop myself after two huge servings. That kept us going until late in the afternoon.

The other B, our bed, was also comfortable and we had our own bathroom/shower. The house is located on what's going to be an apple orchard. Right now, there's not much there, but it does leave an unimpeded view of the ocean.

The hosts were helpful about what to see and do on Salt Spring and the place is within walking distance of "downtown". The house had a number of games (our son wanted to play Monopoly so we did -- ugh) and a TV. It rained and snowed our whole visit so there was more indoor time than anticipated, but what are you gonna do? It's weather. Our son also loved the big, docile dog the owners have as a pet.

There was one other guest while we were there. Me being the anti-social type, I'd have preferred none, but part of the charm, I guess, of a B&B is sharing space with people you don't know. Crisis was averted when the other guest was cooking something for the longest time in the oven around the time we wanted to use it but our hosts offered to let us use the upstairs one.

Thank you for your review, Guy.

We're glad you tried a B&B experience and that you were comfortable and well fed.

We are sorry that your dinner plans were delayed because of another guest. We are working to find a solution to avoid this sort of situation in the future.

We do suggest you try our self-contained studio accommodations the next time you visit. That way, you get the food and comfort you found satisfying last time, along with the complete privacy that you prefer.

We look forward to seeing you again some time soon.

Stayed 2 nights at this centrally located B& B. A 5min. drive to town of Ganges where the Sat.market/shops/restaurants are located. Short drive to the 3 ferry terminals and the beaches.

Very hospitable & attentive hosts, Tonya & Dave. They made the made the effort to ensure my breakfast was gluten-free. Very filling full course breakfast of fresh fruit, waffles & sausage. And delicious eggs benedict on another day!

A separate side entrance leads you into privacy of the bright spacious, basemt floor with a kitchen, living rm, tv, piano, fireplace & access to a patio overlooking the sea. We saw deer in the evening. Clean room is a fair size with a queen bd & an ensuite. Bed mattress dips a bit but is minor. Down duvets.

Very well kept B&B and welcoming hosts who offer tips regarding restaurants and attractions to visit. Will return anyday!

Note: If you are coming to see the sat.market, book your ferry reservations. Brings out all ages, lots of farmers, artists & lots of traffic from ferries. Chance to buy sought after local products.

We took in some of the sites on the island tour: Don't miss the Sacred Mt. Lavender farms where you get to see the growing fields, the distillery & shop of their lavender products. There's also Applelicious Apple Farm: Owner Harry Burton offers a personal & very informative tour. Fabulous fresh wood- fired oven breads at Salt Spring Island Co. & gluten free goodies at Laughing Daughter's Bakery.

Heard there's a free noon wine tasting at the winery and the cheese farms were good. Lots of studio sites to see but most were at the Sat. market so we wandered off to the beaches instead: Vesuvius Bay's rocks are interesting, Fernwood Pt. has long bridge, & Beddis Beach is a good picnic spot with clear cold water.

Restaurant Bocado's had slow service & unfortunately, vegs were over done & others commented on the burnt food.
Gelato is superb at Harlan's Chocolates, esply chocolate & straticella.
Oyster catcher had fresh calamari & filling crab cakes. Good view of the harbour, good food;good service.

Mt Maxwell is worth the trek as it offers a top view of the area. Don't go too late as it gets dark fast/steep bumpy spots and lots of deer.

Amazing artists: Jill Louise Campbell offers very colorful artwork at her gallery. Seen some amazing wood turning pieces.
Awesome Kama Natural Soaps at Nature works/market!

Saw a huge private boat for hire: "After Eight"

Charming island that supports local arts/foods and offers wild nature & a relaxing, enjoyable stay!
