Went over to the island with hubby and Golden Retriever. Adults are $8 and our pooch was $1. Great little 8 minute boat ride over. We walked around the island (about 6 miles in total) and loved every minute of it! We walked on the beach as much as we could and then on the trail when necessary. It is a pretty special place. :)

We spent two nights on a mooring buoy in August. Some smoke from the fires but not too bad. Landscape was dry on the south end of the island where the camping areas are located. Campsites themselves looked great. We walked about 5 miles on some wide trails and some narrow trails. The trails take you north where it is much greener. Lots of shoreline views.
Liked our time there and will be back!

We took the ferry over and hiked around the island for over 2 1/2 hours - great trails - beautiful scenery and best of all no garbage - people respect this provincial park - lots of people enjoying this jewel

Catch the passenger ferry to a place with no RVs and tenting with lots of room. Big spaces for family sports close to the beach for (cold) swimming. Best tent camping around Nanaimo.

Just a short boat ride from the downtown park puts you on a picturesque island with lawns for games, rocky beaches full of barnacles and oysters to explore or swim from, many trails to hike and great views from all directions. The loop trail around the island is a couple of hours of good walking, but well work it for the variety of vegetation, views and terrain. Bathrooms and a little ice cream cafe complete the deal!
