“Pleasant surprise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 November 2011

We were looking for a motel and being on a 1 night transfer from Victoria to Ucluelet we would have expected something a little shabby and anonymous. Instead, Buccaneer Inn has been a very pleasant surprise, with its spotless clean apartment (living room plus kitchenette, bedroom and bathroom) full of naval blue personal details. Dave is a terrific host, kind and always helpful: we followed his advice to have dinner at Asteras Greek Taverna and we were not disappointed!

We were met by owner, Dave, who we felt at ease with immediately as he told some funny stories (love the Canadian sense of humour!!!) who then asked us how long we were staying for. As we were leaving before the next booking was checking in, he put us in the Deluxe Channelview Fireplace Suite for the same price as the 1 bedroom kitchen suite which was great of him as the room was gorgeous!!!!!!!! Nothing like sitting in front of a real fire reading a book, listening to gulls! Bliss!

Immaculate rooms, fully equipped kitchen (where I turned the oven on the wrong setting when cooking texas toast hence setting off the smoke alarm - sorry!!!!!!), gorgeous view of the Harbour with seals & other wildlife.

I LOVED this place, I would love to live in Nanaimo - it was heavenly.

Thanks to Dave & the others, it was fabulous!

Dave and Marlene are helpful and friendly. They know what is worth doing on their island. Place is comfortable and within reach of all we wanted to do. Taking a walk on the Promenade was fun and got to see the locals and their pups. Cowichan Bay was worth seeing for us...great bakery grinding own grain and the hazelnut bread was fantastic. Cheese shop close by also.

As mentioned on Trip Advisor and in the Lonely planet this motel exeeds expectations. We've spend a couple of days at the Buccaneer on our way to Tofino, as well on our way back to Vancouver. With 2 rooms to review we can most defenitly agree with the proud owners, trip advisor and lonely planet. The rooms are spacious, clean, the service is excellent and the hospitality's a warm welcome! City center is a bit of a walk (3km give or take) but that wasn't a issue for us.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 September 2011

We needed a bed for the night after a two week holiday on the Island. We were looking for a clean, comfortable room at a reasonable price. We booked the Corner Studio (Room 101), which apparently is a new room. Although we were warned it was small for two people, we actually found it perfect for our purposes. The bed was very comfortable and I was surprised that the bathroom had a tub with a sloping back rather than a shower. I was able to have a hot soak after a tiring day. The amentities in the room (large screen TV, fridge, microwave, dishes, toiletries) were well thought out and there was even real cream in the fridge for my in-room coffee. I was also surprised how quiet our room was. Our window faced the back garden, so we were able to have it open to let in some fresh air.
We've stayed at the Buccanner Inn before in one of their suites and came back because we thought we got excellent value the last time. The place is spotlessly clean and due to my husband's allergy, we like it that no pets are allowed. The information binder provided gives guests a wide array of information from restaurants to local places of worship.

Room Tip: Room 101 would likely be quieter than the other corner studio room

Dear contemplativecouple,

Thank you very much for your review and for having stayed with us again. We are always very pleased to read about the cleanliness of our rooms, our well thought amenities and the excellent value our guests receive.

For future guests staying in our new Corner Studio, we did want to clarify that the compact bathroom does offer a tub with a sloping back (very comfy!) and a nice shower.

Thanks again for your review and we look forward to welcoming you back again and again!

Your hosts,

Dave and Marlene
