Our first year we stayed at the Mountian View Cottage - I give this a 5 stars!! Excellent rental, very organized and an excellent family vacation.

DO NOT STAY at the SUNRISE CASA!! 43548 Red Hawk Pass. Our second year we rented the Sunrise Casa from Jasmeet Bhullar aka Jess. Once she had our large rental deposit booked months in advance it was all downhill from there!

1. Communication regarding the rental from there on took days/weeks to get a response, at some point we even questioned if the rental was a scam. Not to mention the cleaning fee of $125 jumped up to $175 after booking.... so they agreed to accept $150 (which in the end I realize they didn't even hire a cleaning company!)

2.Finally on the day of our vacation Jess was supposed to text me a meeting spot which she never did, when I finally got a hold of her and we agreed on a meeting spot we left for our vacation! At this point excited but mostly nervous about the rental.

3.Upon arrival at the locked gates we parker and waited..... with no text or call to say she was running late I gave her a call to of course find out there had been an "accident". Waiting for 40minutes at the front gate with two young children was not fun :(

4. When we finally got into the unit Jess gave us a few instructions on where to leave the key etc and left. After checking out the cottage we were disappointed to find it was VERY poorly stocked. It sleeps 8 however, if you want to be comfortable make sure you pack EVERYTHING you need. There was one small hotel size towel per person ( I'm a girl I need one for my hair and one for my body!). One blanket per bed. One dish towel and no dish clothes. The kitchen had the bare minimum. Eating steak was a joke in which we had one decent knife and we all had to pre cut our meat and pass the knife around the table!

At this point we were beyond annoyed at the rental and positive we would not book again. Especially after having such a wonderful rental the year before which was sadly booked for the week we choose.

5. One week after check out we were shocked ( well sort of ) to be told we would not be receiving our damage deposit back. Claiming we had stained the towels and kitchen rugs..... apparently we are very dirty after a shower? And we made sure to remove our shoes to which she accused that it must have been our kids dirty feet. Then next email to came ( it took a whole week to get back to me) it came with even more apparently damages............. I could go on and on but you get the point! They were scamming us for our damage deposit - un real. Not to mention she didn't bother to walk through the place with us in the first place.

6. The neighbours were able to confirm that they have met many many un happy renters.

If you are looking for a wonderful family get away Cultus Lake Cottages has a lot to offer! Just don't pick this unit.

Happy Travels :)

Unit # 1791 Treehouse Trail. Owner Jim & Tracey Mackay. Contact info on VRBO.

The owners were great to meet and deal with and our holiday was truly enjoyable. I highly recommend this cottage. All amenities are running from approx May 20 to Oct 10, but confirm with owner. Then only change through winter is that the pool is closed.

Complex: gated community with paved roadways but driveways and visitor parking are firm grass. Very safe for children. The lake is 3 minutes away by car to Maple Bay Picnic Area and numerous other beaches are along lakeside.

Cottage : 2 stories, in new condition on a large corner lot with a front porch and side deck (with BBQ). It has 2 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. The upstairs has a large loft area, a bedroom with bunkbeds and full bathroom. Downstairs has beautiful kitchen, dining and living room plus a master bedroom with en suite bathroom. There is also a storage locker that easily held our 3 bikes. Parking for 2 vehicles and visitor parking is readily available throughout complex.

Treehouse clubhouse : very close to the cottage and an amazing amenity. The kids pool is better than most communities have and the main pool is a decent size. There are deck chairs all around both pool areas and also two hot tubs. Other features of clubhouse are a large indoor social area with outside deck, pool table, foosball table, library, kids activity/art room, gym, ping pong and a large theatre room (bring your blu ray discs from home).

Other on site amenities (all just a quick stroll away): 2 fire pits, playground, 2 tennis courts, grass volleyball court, basketball / ball hockey area, and boat parking (not sure how that works so check with Jim).

Nearby amenities (within 8km):

Cultus Lake Water Slides : Awesome. Very clean and well run. Refer to their website for more info.

Tap-ins Golf : this is 18 holes of very long (up to 200 feet) putting greens and it was a blast.

Giggle Dam mini golf : nice course with great decorating.

Tea Pot Trail : a hike near cottages with parking at base. Fairly challenging hike but worth journey. Bring an old teapot to set at top!

Best Ice Cream : Coneheads beside watersides (same side of street). Great selection and huge scoops at very reasonable prices.

Dining :
1. Cultus Lake Golf Course Bistro (same parking as Tap-ins), enjoyed the food and great service. Sitting on patio was peaceful.
2. Aquadel Par 3 Golf - located right beside cottages and the food and service was even better than Bistro which is something!
.....both golf courses looked great and were reasonably priced.

For those so inclined you can rent boats and jet skis at the lake.
