This residential community and shopping district is quite large, extending from the Elbow Rive to the community of Mount Royal, south of 17 Avenue SW. On its western edge are two gorgeous single floor former school buildings that are still in use. The oldest, the historic Holy Angels school was built in 1919 by the Catholic diocese and the Cliff Bungalow School, built in 1929. There are generous green spaces around them with huge trees and lawns, and the community association has one of their allotment gardens there, which was still gorgeous with greenery and blossoms, even though it was September. If you're tired of shopping, go west, and relax amidst some real beauty.

This is one Calgary's special communities. On the east and south, it's bordered by the lovely Elbow River and all the great pathways connected to that. On the south is 17th Avenue, with all its fun shopping and restaurant. The core of the neighbourhood is 4th Street, and the ever-changing range of great restaurants and boutiques. But for the history buff, there's so much more, with the Rouleauville French District on the north side, the old Holy Cross Hospital, and many other historic homes and buildings. For the architecture lover, there are old, mid-century, and also wildly contemporary buildings sprinkled through the district. It's a highly liveable community, with a good gas station on the north side, and a good grocery store on the south edge. What more could a visitor or local want to see?

If all that was there was beautiful tree-lined streets with its mix of old homes and new condos, it would still be worth a visit. But Mission also has a couple of excellent green spaces nearby - to the east - Lindsay Park and to the south the Elbow River and Elbow Islands Park. Fourth Street business and entertain district bisects Mission, so there's lots of fun eateries and shops to keep you fed and stocked up. You can even gas up and have your car washed at the PetroCan station. If you can't live here, you can still visit!

Walkable from downtown, this is one of Calgary's desirable neighbourhoods. If you're lucky enough to live there, you'll know why. But like most of us, we just visit as we can. The Elbow River borders the Mission / Cliff Bungalow on the north and east, wonderful for people who love Calgary's river pathways, and strolling through Lindsay Park. For foodies, there's lots of restaurants and eateries of all kinds on 4 Street, including a Safeway. The Petro Canada gas station has a car wash, and there are many other services and shops to explore. If you're staying in Calgary, make sure to drop by!

Recently moved here -- but have been coming down almost weekly for the past couple of years. This neighbourhood has everything you could want. You can walk to restaurants, parks, running paths, shopping, health care, theatre, movies, etc.

Wonderful location by the Elbow!

It's nice to stroll along the streets of the Mission District in Calgary. The houses are cute and well kept, like going back in time. There are restaurants and coffee shops in the area to sit back and enjoy some relaxation and good food. It's a short walk to the Stampede grounds and the river. Lovely and unique area.

The mission district is rich in history, and has a lot of character. There are lots of good restaurants and cafes within easy walking distance, and the area is within a short stroll of the Stampede grounds and the Saddledome, as well as the more 'bohemian' area of 17th Avenue. Located below the CPR railway tracks south of Calgary's downtown core, it's a great area for taking a stroll or jog.

The Mission is like being transported to a funky, cool little place ... Walk the streets, stop for a coffee, croissant, walk more, peruse the shops - try on some clothes ... Stop later for a glass of wine and lunch or an early dinner - there are lots of great restaurants yo choose from. After walk along the Bow River....
We love this area
