“What a view!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 April 2012

What a magnificent view. You really should pay extra for a room with a view. After booking a basic room, we selected an upgrade to a suite with a view .. wow! The extra room was fantastic for our young family and the view is amazing. The service in both the lakeside lounge and glacier saloon was excellent - they really looked after the kids.

Room Tip: Book a room with a view

This hotel is magnificent. The room was spacious and beds were comfortable. Although it was a maze to find our room it was well worth it. The lake was frozen and it was a winter paradise for me coming from a Country that is majority of the time hot. There are shops and restaurants within the chateau. This place is fantastic to go if you want to get away from the Hustle & Bustle of the city to just sit back and relax or even going walking on the trails around the lake or go skiing. Thumns up for this place!!!

Our last stay at the Chateau Lake Louise was last fall when my husband had a conference there for his company. I live about 4 hours away and I grew up going to the Chateau Lake Louise (to stay and ski) so I have stayed there 20+ times over the years, and in those years, it was amazing! In the past few years however, unless we have a specific reason to stay there, we stay close by (usually the Post Hotel) and enjoy the area. The Chateau Lake Louise, while amazing as a hotel, is very overpriced for what you actually get!! The rooms are usually tiny and very overpriced. I noticed that many people complained about not having free WiFi so just a hint that if you join the Fairmont Club before you stay there (for free,) you will get free WiFi...which I did and I did enjoy free WiFi at the Fairmont Empress in Victoria in Nov...of course, they don't really advertise that which is a shame as far as I am concerned! I will say that my husband and I are celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary in May and we will not be staying at the Chateau Lake Louise...we will be staying at another hotel down the road that has free parking and wifi!

The pool and spa need to be redone and we would pick many other hotels in the the Banff/Lake Louise are that actually have modern and up to date pools and spas!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a lake view but be prepared to spend a lot of extra money!

We greatly appreciate your feedback - knowing what our guests expect and the perceived value they receive is something we always try to focus on. Wireless Internet access is indeed a complmientary option for all Fairmont President's Club guests across the Fairmont Brand. The club is free to join either through our website or through any hotel.

Should you wish to discuss your stay further, I invite you to contact me at the hotel.

Warm Regards,

The Chateau has something for everyone - young or old, winter or summer. One transports oneself from the modern day to the days of old....but with a modern flavour. Very well done! Lots of choice for food. Spa is good!

Service was excellent but the views are to die for! The cross country skiing from the hotel is exquisite and the alpine skiing at Lake Louise Resort is no slouch either. All in all great value and a wonderful getaway!

Room Tip: any mountain view room is excellent.

Stayed here mid-April 2012
3 Fairmont Lakeview rooms via GRGD
1 one-bedroom suite via AMEX FHR << upgraded to the best suite in hotel - 2-story Belvedere Lakeview Suite (the exact picture you see on Fairmont website, room 883, which has 2 balconies on either sides). $600/night upgraded to $1200/night suite

+ Before arrival, Concieage was alreaydy in contact and setup all the room upgrades in place. Afternoon tea, dinner reservations, tour maps, booked horse sleigh, etc.. (thanks Evan)
+ Afternoon tea was good, food tower was more than we expected (had leftover), tea so-so. Good view
+ Dinner @ Poppy was great (2 dinners were comp'ed under AMEX FHR)
+ Breakfast @ Poppy again was great (buffet + Japanese salmon bento box), comp'ed again
+ Service was perfect, from bellman to valet to hotel staff
+ Fairmont Lakeview room was... typical, a bit small size, felt hot for all 3 rooms, but with Lakeview and bath robes
+ All rooms/suites came with bath robes & Fairmont slippers (2 per floor in the suite)

++++ Memory of Lifetime in the Belvedere Lakeview Suite... everyone was simply impressed and speechless by the view, the size (870 sq ft), the bathroom, the prestige, the "Presidential suite" feel of it. It had expresso machine even (free packets), fruits, water, and perfect place for a big family to hang out together for a lifetime memory

Only minor issue
- parking is $30-$35/night Valet but self-park isn't much cheaper. Public parking is free
- It's April, lake was still frozen with lots of snow

I would certainly come back another time for a different view, hopefully in the same suite

Room Tip: Lakeview is worth it, especially in better season
