“could try harder!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 September 2012

Deer Lodge is in a good position for visiting Lake Louise. Marginally less expensive than the vast Chateau Fairmont Lake Louise it is very convenient for visiting the lake and all the hiking trails nearby. sadly it could do with a bit of a shake up.Heritage rooms (no wifi, no tv) are spacious, but tired, also the ensuite bathrooms.Considering this hotel is not a cheap one Ifeel it could try more.Housekeeping was excellent, when asked for fresh cold milk and a kettle it soon arrived, but breakfast , which was not included in the tariff was poor. My eggs benedict was cold and had to be sent back, meanwhile my husband ate all his bacon and eggs etc, and had finished before my fresh hot eggs Benedict were cooked. A tiny apology but no offer to reduce the cost of the breakfast. We dined at Moraine Lake the following day in protest.

Stay in Banff! No elevator - didn't realize this before arrival. Carried suitcases up 3 flights of stairs. Halls dimly lighted. VERY small room - in the original property. Lovely view of a stone wall out of the one window that opened (don't touch the screen!) The blind on that window was broken. No outlets for the facility-provided clock radio. Front desk staff responded that "it IS an old facility and there are not enough outlets" So, why provide a clock that you can't use????? Bathroom was also small. No TV, microwave, refrigerator or AC. The couple we travelled with described it as reminding them of a convent - sparse. Broken safe in both rooms with a note taped on it not to use. Restaurant was ok. Slow service. Hot and cold breakfast buffets available. A little pricey for what is provided. Better option is to order from the breakfast menu. If I returned to the area I would stay in Banff and drive up to Lake Louise just to see it.

Room Tip: Go to Banff!

Deer lodge is an attractive rustic style of hotel situated by lake Louise and near to moraine lake and lake Louise village. The room was nice but there were a couple of loose electrical fittings. Food in the hotel is somewhat limited but is very nice. Staff were friendly and the hotel overall is quite comfy to spend a few nights at. It is quite costly at the hotel for food and drink but I think this is because there really isn't much in the way of shops or restaurants nearby.

O Dear Lodge:
Like everything else in Lake Louise, Deer Lodge is heavily overrated. You probably can't complain as it is still amongst the cheapest accommodations in LL, but a shabby room with a broken down safe, without fridge, without TV, without even a QS bed for 200 Dollars (including tax), that's by far the worst quality-price-ratio on my whole 5 weeks trip through BC+Alberta. Service was a bit confusing as they had done some internal mistake when I checked in, but at least they're friendly and helpful.
If you really want to stay in LL for the night you might as well sleep here, but if I knew what expected me I'd have moved on to Banff for the night for sure.

Room Tip: At least ask for a room with a view.

stayed for 2 nights, excellent location and really is the only place to stay if seeing lake louise and do not want to drive (fairmount there but very expensive). We liked the rustic character of the communal areas particularly the bar area. The evening food was very good and had excellent service (believe his name was John, from ontario). Breakfast was ok but the service was not as good, we had finshed our breakfast before coffee arrived, despite asking 2 different staff, it only arrived once the manager got involved. The rooms are very basic and if you plan on staying in your room for very long it would probably be worth an upgrade.
