“Lovely drive, but not always wildlife about”
Review of Bow Valley Parkway

Bow Valley Parkway
Reviewed 20 August 2018

We did this drive several times whilst in the area
We saw long horned sheep and deer
I know people have seen far more exciting things from reading the reviews,we were just unlucky
It’s a really nice steady road with plenty of places to pull over
I would recommend people to do it because you never know what you might encounter.

Thank Helen H

Nice route to drive if looking for wildlife! We saw several deer and a black bear prior to sunset. Everyone driving along the route is doing the same, so everyone is driving pretty slow and not in a rush. Lots of spots to pull off if someone wants to pass. If you see an animal and pull over chances are you will trigger others to do the same. But definitely be mindful of the animals and the park rules. Pulling over and getting close to animals can eliminate their fear of cars, causing them to feel safe around us and increasing the chance of them being hit.

We tried 3 times to see wildlife but it didn’t work out for us. It’s random what you’ll get to see so keep that in mind. While hiking at Johnston Canyon though, which is off the parkway, we saw a black bear in the forest. That was really cool.

Awesome drive, but do NOT stop to look at wildlife, it is illegal and Parks Canada will stop you if you get out of your car.
