This is a way better yet a little longer alternative to the highway in between Lake Louise and downtown Banff. We drove it multiple times in order to see bears- which we did! We saw a mom and her cub. This was near the controlled burn area. Closed campsites along the road had elk and moose. It’s easiest to spot wildlife by other cars pulled over. A park ranger will frequently stop as well to make sure people are staying in their cars but she was friendly. Parts of this road are closed seasonally to protect wildlife.
