“Scenic drive! Saw bears and elk in the afternoon and early morning.”
Review of Bow Valley Parkway

This is a way better yet a little longer alternative to the highway in between Lake Louise and downtown Banff. We drove it multiple times in order to see bears- which we did! We saw a mom and her cub. This was near the controlled burn area. Closed campsites along the road had elk and moose. It’s easiest to spot wildlife by other cars pulled over. A park ranger will frequently stop as well to make sure people are staying in their cars but she was friendly. Parts of this road are closed seasonally to protect wildlife.

Pretty winding alternative to the main highway. Takes a bit longer but you'll never realize it with the pretty views and easy roadside stops.

This is quite simply one of the best drives ever! There are mountains, rivers, wildlife and plenty of places to stop and take pictures. Don’t be in a hurry and pay attention to signs.

Bow Valley Parkway was an area we went through on our way to visit Lake Louise. It is an area where you are able to see much wildlife.

Fantastic views of the Bow River, Castle Mountain, and local wildlife. Johnston Canyon is on the way, and is worth the stop. While it’s a bit of a hike, the views are worth it. Be sure you check local road rules before you go. When we went the road is closed from 9pm to 8am as wildlife become a real challenge...and we couldn’t go all the way to Lake Louise due to a road closure.
