I first visited, but didn't stay in, this grand hotel as a teenager in 1967. There is the much more modern, Fairmont Lake Louise not far away. But the character, history, grandeur of this old railroad hotel cannot be matched. My family and I loved our stay. And more than its dramatic contours, what really makes the place stand out is the quality and consistency of the service from the people who work here. From the cleaning staff to the wait staff to to patient and exceedingly helpful concierge staff...everyone is proactively and genuinely glad to help you. It is really amazing. We had many conversation with people about their backgrounds and experiences. There was Melissa in the Vermillion Room - laughing and fun - to Kristi on the concierge staff who happily indulged our many questions and was a fount of great ideas (get to Moraine Lake BEFORE 7 AM).

There is something about the Fairmont recruiting process that results in staff members who you feel are your friends. We will never forget the experience.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a room with a view. Remember how important memories are.

My wife and I recently spent a couple of nights at the Banff Springs Hotel.
Just as all the photos you’ve seen the building is stunning as are the grounds. In particular we enjoyed the walk via Bow Falls to Downtown Banff (20 minutes).
All of the staff, from valet parking, reception and concierge were fantastic. Professional but very friendly.
We had a large Queen room which in itself was very nice, spacious and with a good bathroom.
My only issue is that Banff is a town with great views at every turn, but sadly not from our room. Our view was directly into the multi storey car park attached to the hotel. Not great considering the cost for the room!!
So overall a great hotel but don’t expect to have a room with a view.

This is our second time staying at the Banff Springs. We loved the first trip 15 years ago, and had to return with our kids. This is not the same hotel, and the service and customer focus are terrible. Many instances, but by far the worst was after we checked out of the hotel. While having breakfast in town, my daughter realized she left her earrings on the bedside table. We contacted the hotel, and they said they’d check. The hotel called us back 10 minutes later stating they did not find them, but assured us they thoroughly searched the room. My daughter was so upset, and we decided to return to the hotel and look for ourselves. My wife and daughter skipped the front desk to avoid the bureaucracy and went straight to the room, asking an attendant cleaning an adjacent room to let them in. This is the same attendant who previously searched the room. My wife and daughter entered and immediately saw the earrings exactly where we stated they were; plain sight on the bed table. We will not be returning to this hotel, or any other Fairmont.

This hotel was part of our Rocky Mountaineer package so our lake view rooms were part of that. Our view was out over the beautiful Bow River, onto the golf course and of forested and snow capped mountains. Driving up to the hotel is like entering another world. The architecture, the stonework, the little turrets and detail are fascinating. It is extremely busy and there are hotel employees assisting outdoors with parking, holding umbrellas for you if it is raining, and guiding you indoors. If you do have to stand outside there are heaters from memory. The hotel sprawls for miles, and one is easily disorientated. Corridors which never seem to look the same, ballrooms, grand staircases all give a sense of grandeur. Our room was tiny - the bathroom even smaller but as I was not responsible for making the booking I cannot comment on whether there is anything larger on offer. Once our suitcases were in the room it was quite tight, however it was clean, the bed comfortable and we could make a cup of tea, coffee etc plus there was bottled water supplied which was appreciated. We dined in the Vermillion Room, had drinks in one of the lounges which had a grand piano which was not locked. (Mostly they are - I guess to stop persons playing Chopsticks or Fur Elise at infinitum!!) One of our group had a birthday so as there were not many people in the lounge at that stage I was able to give a rendition of Happy Birthday (having gained permission) and our group joined in singing both in English and French. A very special moment - I can say I gave a mini-recital in the Fairmont Banff!! We also enjoyed food & coffee from STOCK, their cafe /food store. Bought food and drink and went outside onto their patio where tables and chairs are set out to eat and enjoy the moment. Warm rugs are strategically placed, weighted down with a stone, for patrons to use when cold. There are the usual shops attached which are designed to attract a certain clientele who delight in out doing each other with the money they spend, but we enjoyed looking. Special memories!

This resort was on my wife’s bucket list of places to visit so it was decided to make this our honeymoon destination. Everyone that we talked to that have been here told us that it’s the most beautiful place in the world. They were not wrong.

When people ask us for pictures we always tell them that pictures don’t even do this place justice. Pictures can’t capture the beauty of the hotel and the surrounding landscape.

We stayed in the gatehouse the first night then upgraded to the gold floor for the remaining 3 nights. The gold floor was worth the extra cash. The food in the gold floor lounge was always spectacular.

Every encounter we had with the employees was spectacular. Everyone from the front desk to the people working at the pool. They make this place worth it and it was noticed right away by us. All of our silly questions were answered with a caring response. My wife left our credit card at the pool bar after closing our tab and the next day when we realized it the nice girl told us that it was taken up stairs and we did not have to worry about anything happening to it and it was safe with them. She quickly went and got it for us. Stuff like that is what creates a great experience. Every employee was happy to see us and we felt at home with all of them.

We ate at the chop house, the lookout, the Italian restaurant and the German pub. Every meal was delicious. I would consider myself a “food snob” and our meal at the German pub was the best meal I have ever had. It was so simple yet so darn delicious.

We were sad to leave and hopefully will be returning down the road.
