Found the location of this hotel outstanding. Staff friendly and helpful. However, although our bedroom was fine we found the bathroom (room 606) very small, like showering in a cupboard. The bedding was clean as expected, what we didn’t expect was that the bedding was torn. Obviously an oversight, but certainly not up to standard. Again, not possible to sit at a table while using a hairdryer, same old hotel problem.

Room Tip: You may want to ensure you don’t get such a small bathroom.

Dear Alex H,

Thank you for the review and for the comments - due to our Heritage status the size of the room/bathroom is something that we are unable to control. We do however apologize for any inconvenience that this might have caused and appreciate you taking the time to bring this to our attention. We otherwise hope you had a great time in Banff National Park and had a safe journey home.

The first thing that strikes you about this property is its size. The place is huge. As a result, it is very easy to get lost. Once you are oriented there is much to explore. The concierge is exceptionally helpful and the entire hotel staff go out of their way to answer any question or meet any need. We had been warned that the rooms here would be very small as it was built in the 1800's. We were, however, pleasantly surprised. Our room, while not large, was quite comfortable. The bed was ok, but not great. My main complaint is that the beds are so high you nearly need a ladder to climb in. The setting of the hotel is magnificent, but it is not in the town of Banff. Walking to town by way of Bow Falls provides some beautiful scenery, but is not the easy stroll they would have you believe. Be prepared to go up and down many flights of steps. The alleged 15 minute walk took this older couple about 45 minutes. There are lots of places to rest though, and as stated the scenery makes it worthwhile. Once was enough, however, so on subsequent trips into town we took advantage of the free shuttle service to town provided by the hotel and took the bus back (2$ , 1$ for seniors). Breakfast at the hotel was very good and there are several restaurants in the hotel from which to choose for lunch or dinner. On any return trip to the area this will definitely be our hotel of choice.

Room Tip: Explore the hotel. There are a lot of interesting gems inside.

We only stayed one night but we took advantage of several of the Hotel's many venues. It allowed us to feel like it would have if we had been one of the lucky few "Old Money" guests from the 20's and 30's who would summer for 3 or 4 months in mountains. Afternoon tea, brunch, lounging in the heated pool. A nice hike around the grounds and down to the falls. We live in Calgary so we have been to the hotel for different functions in the past but never stayed before so this was a different perspective. It is still a pricey endeavor so plan on blowing the budget, but it is a treat to spoil yourself. We took the tour that the Hotel provides and it was very informative. Our room was small but clean, it almost encourages the guests to get out and about to see everything that this Castle in the mountains has to offer. We were a little surprised at being charged $27 cdn for parking on top of our room charge as well as the fact that it is a bit of a hike to walk your bags to your car in the parkade after you check out and there is no elevator in the parkade. Brunch for 2 set us back another $115 cdn plus extra for tip. As stated before, be prepared to give your credit card a strenuous workout but as far as bucket list adventures it is worth it. It just gives you a chance to really accept how lucky we are to be able to live in this beautiful part of Canada and have such easy access to our exceptional scenery and clean air. Banff National Park is a wonder of sights and sounds and this Hotel is just one of those wonders. We walk in the steps of many who came before us. The original railway scouts that developed this area for generations to come. The rich and the famous and the everyday folk who have walked these paths and viewed this landmark are all richer for the experience

Dear Jamie J,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, and for joining us at the Castle. We are so glad that you had the chance to unwind and spend a bit more time exploring. We do apologize if your additional parking fees came as a surprise, as well as your experience in the parkade. We're fortunate to be located in such a beautiful park, but it makes it challenging for infrastructure upgrades! We really do appreciate your patience as well as your perspective.
We know there are many hotel options in the area, so it really does mean a lot that you chose to stay with us. Please know the door is always open at the Castle and we hope it feels a bit like home!

Lovely place to stay. Did the 1 hour tour. Highly recommended. Walked into town of Banff to shop and snack around beautiful location. It’s been there since late 1800’s. Rooms were comfortable and clean. View from 2nd floor room was not good. So much to see in this beautiful hotel. Recommend browsing around to see its history

Celebrating 130 years in its prime location, the iconic property is the place to stay in Banff. But you will need deep pockets as room rates are as steep as the stunning mountain ranges that surround it. Restaurant food was pretty average and did not live up to the menu hype. To access the outside pool, guests need a detailed map as the hotel as seen so many additions over the years that it has become minefield of tunnels, dark archways and staircases. Don't miss the museum gallery which its fascinating history of the property.
