“A great stay nearly spoiled but rescued by manager”
Reviewed 19 April 2012

Just back from a week in a standard room. Price competitive, room a trifle on the small side for two adults and two expanding kids, but staff very helpful and the breakfasts are "arssum" - the temptation to pig out is too great before a coach journey and a day on the slopes. Unfortunately some money went missing from our room ( a not inconsiderable sum). Careless of us to leave cash in a bag in the back of the cupboard - a lesson learnt. The famed Mounties were not much help but Arjun the desk manager went out of his way to help and did much to restore our faith in the traditional Canadian reputation for warmth and hospitality - many, many thanks, Arjun. We will definitely return and would recommend to anyone. Why do the trains always give four blasts of their horns at all times of the day and night (audible, as I understand it, in every hotel room in Banff)??!!

Room Tip: Try to get a room near the elevators - a long corridor in ski boots!

Dear Bernie S
Thank you so much for review. Again we are very sorry for the unfortunate incident that occurred during your stay with us, but I am very pleased that Arjun was able to assist you, and you departed content. In regards to the train, it is a by-law that all trains must blast their horns at each crossing to warn humans and animals alike as they are unable to stop on short notice. Although we know this can be a bit disturbing for guests not accustomed to it, Banff would not be here if it were not for the train bringing tourist to the mountain starting over a hundred years ago, so we put up with it. Hoping to see you again on your next trip to Banff.

Stayed in Banff Ptarmigan Inn in April 2012.

Nicely appointed and clean standard (2 Queens) rooms.

Friendly, very nice staff.

Free underground parking and wi-fi.

Better breakfast with cook cooking omelettes to order, and excellent "upscale" sausages.

Didn't visit spa or gym so can't tell.

No fridge in our room - but we were able to use the fridge at reception desk for baby food.

For those traveling with ski racks - parking height is marked 6.0, real clearance I think is 6.1, need to be very careful inside. Also when we arrived, underground parking was full to capacity, so there's probably a risk of having to leave the car at open parking which may not be great if you arrive on a really cold day in winter.

Ventilation was a bit noisy in our room.

Otherwise excellent stay.

We were here recently, We had up graded to a Superior room, besides location (corner unit, out of the way) The room was just as small or even smaller then the standard rooms, a few people that were with us who had standard rooms. The room was basic and bed had a weird lean to it resulting in sore necks and backs the following day.

The buffet was decent. The location was pretty good.

Welcome home and thank you for writing your review. The only difference between a superior and standard room at our hotel is that a superior room has a window or balcony that opens up to the outside of the hotel, with fresh air, whereas the standard rooms all face into the interior lobby or atrium of the hotel. We do have a few different configurations of each room, depending on one or two queen beds, feel free to inquire about the options the next time you visit us.

not a bad place. was 150$ for one night, but its right on Banff ave, at the south (south..?) end. Our room was comfortable, beds were great. minimal amenities. no mini fridge, or ice bucket...we had to use one of our beer boxes to get ice and fill the sink...which by the way...is not in the bathroom, its a very weird little room. I have been to better places for cheaper in Banff, but i wouldn't warn anyone against the Ptarmigan. Great FREE breakfast when you book a room. They have all the hot fixings (eggs bacon, etc.) fruit salad, cereal...and even a station where a chef will make custom omlets made to order :) Dont have a pool, but do have two hot tubs a sauna and free internet.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write your review. I am sorry to hear that we somehow missed replacing the ice bucket in your room; I have followed up with housekeeping on that matter, as all of our rooms should have an ice bucket available. In regards to the sink being outside of the bathroom, we have a few different configurations in our rooms, and some guests prefer to have the sink outside of the bathroom when sharing with others (non couples) so that one person may shower and one gets ready at the sink. For future if you prefer to not have this option, just let us know at check in, and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

This hotel is close enough to be able to walk anyhwere in downtown Banff. The room was clean and a reasonable size with a comfortable bed. My room had a balcony facing outside (some rooms face onto interior enclosed courtyard). The hot breakfast that was included with the room was good with omlettes cooked to order. I was disappointed that there was not a small fridge in the room. There is a restaurant, the Meatball, and lounge in the hotel.

Room Tip: Upper exterior balcony room have better views.

Welcome home and thank you for the review. The only rooms in our hotel that offer in room fridges are our Premium suites, however we are happy to store any essentials that guests may have in our fridge located at the Front Desk, which is manned 24 hours a day. Once again thank you and we hope to see you again.
