Well worth a detour

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 14 Dec 2019
These cabins are 18 kms from Villa Cerro Castillo along a lovely gravel road through mountains, not a problem in a 4/4 vehicle. The cabin once heated was delightful and well appointed, but bring provisions with you. The young manager provided a taxi service for 2 of us to Balmaceda Airport, and it was a simple drive on a continuation of the gravel road for the other 2 of us to get to and catch the ferry from Puerto Ibanez to Chile Chico. There is one 2hr 15 min ferry per day on most days, but check the timetable on line and book in advance. The trip along the lake on the other side from Chile Chico was the highlight of our 3 week trip in Northern Patagonia.

What a location! Could the cabins have the best view in Chile? Possibly. Stunning. The cabins are fine. All that you need is there and Angie offers to make breakfast and dinner. Both excellent. Getting to the cabins is more challenging. Five km on the main road from Villa Cerro Castillo and a left turn onto a rough track (with no sign to the cabins). Another 12 km up the track with two turns without signs (actually one does but not easily spotted). Take the left both times. Can it really be this far? Yes it is. Don't attempt this place without a high clearance vehicle as a minimum. A 4by4 would be much better as there is one very steep rough hill. But you will enjoy being there! It's worth the drive.
