Service is great, all the staff is commited to do their best for you. One of the few closed beaches o Riviera Maya and you and your kids can swim safely and wothout the annoying seaweeds (a big problem on Riviera Maya - Cancun). Explorers Club (Kids Club). Very good food on restaurants and room service. Good amenities and entertainment. Plus you have dolphins just beside (my room had view to the dolphin lake)

Room Tip: Dolphin view and it had double heigh with a sofa tv room upstairs (I used as a kids room) Caveat, the sofa it was not comfortable

Came to this resort six years ago it has completely gone downhill it is way overbooked the restaurants other than the Portofino a really bad there is no way this property should still be listed as the dreams resort it's not even close Amresorts should downgrade this to us on scape in at this point I'm not even sure it's worth I called he way overpriced obviously
Only one restaurant had air-conditioning absolutely no AC in the lobby or anywhere else which makes it horrible when you're arriving or departing
The lunches were especially bad the buffet had no variety whatsoever nor did the seaside Grill when the hotdogs and hamburgers are the best thing for lunch you know this is not a 45 star resort
We have stayed at many luxury resorts including most of all the secrets and dreams resorts this is by far the worst they now even charge you for certain liquors extra

Ten years ago my wife and I were married at an AM Resort on suggestion from our travel agent and a coworker, the Secrets Capri Riviera Maya. It was an amazing experience my wife and I will not soon forget and exceeded all our expectations (food, room, service).
Based on that experience we decided to stay within the AMResort family on our return visit ten years later for our anniversary. We had our eight year old daughter with us so we chose the Dreams resort because of the beach, on site snorkeling and the kids club. In a nutshell it was a mediocre experience and we will list the good, the bad, and the ugly to help you make the best decision for you and your family.
Good:
-Clean beautiful room-a little older, but well decorated and very clean. Housekeeping did a great job
-Beach access- small beach but enough for the resort size
-Beautiful natural rock pool onsite. Bring water shoes - rock is sharp.
-On site snorkeling - safe with a little reef just off the beach. Perfect for kids
-Safe gated community-they brought vendors onsite so no need to go off property. They verified all drivers and guests and seemed very thorough.
-Nightly entertainment was good and mostly family friendly
-Separate adult side for quiet time
-No reservations or limits at any restaurants
-Dolphin and manatee area on site
-Explorers club - my daughter only used it twice, but had a great time. They have a good variety of activities and staff are super friendly and great with the kids.
-Wifi Included-not great in room, but good on the beach. ?
-Transfer from hotel to airport - arrived late due to traffic, but Jaime & the driver did an excellent job of getting us there on time and putting everyone at ease with humor.
-Amstar reps on site at the hotel (Mauricio and Sostenas) and the transfer back (Jaime) were very professional and helpful.
Bad:
-Poor service by welcoming staff (Amstar) at airport/ no help with luggage four reps point and tell you to tote your luggage to the last driver. *Driver Augustine was fantastic after we got there.
-Poor welcome at the hotel, offered champagne from AM Resorts time share rep then escorted to sales pitch area to wait for hotel room and champagne. Never got champagne and had to sit through 30 min sales pitch mixed with hotel orientation. The rep was pushy and i felt like it was a desperate attempt to meet a quota.
-Room was not ready at 3-3:30 and we asked for a room not on 1st floor. The desk clerk said the hotel was full but she would try. We did get a 1st floor room and was told we might be able to change on day 2. On day 2 we inquired again, and the desk clerk rudely informed us that the Garden View that we selected meant 1st floor (our travel agent didn't explain that), but they would accommodate us only if we packed that very instant and moved it out ourselves. We just stayed there. Garden view rooms are loud (until 11pm) and by the family pool, but we did enjoy the walk out patio.
-Understaffed - Bars, restaurants, pool and beach attendants were all overworked and it showed. They all looked stressed, tired and generally unhappy. Took long time to get drinks, food and we saw several maintenance issues (bar equipment broken, elevator down, coffee shop a/c out), that just seemed to put more stress & pressure on staff and prevent good service. We tip well because they really try. But it is hard to relax when surrounded by stressed people.
-Drinks - seemed watered down. Top shelf didn't really taste like top shelf.
-Food - average at best. Small portions. Not enough description on menu. Frequently out of menu items. We tried all restaurants except the sushi bar. The buffet breakfast food was always cold (eggs, sausage, etc) Saw several sanitation issues at burger/hot dog bar - bare hands on burgers taken directly to cheese/veggie cooler without washing hands. Band-aid finger with no gloves. I suffered one day of Montezuma's revenge after eating at Oceana which ruined one whole day of my vacation. We used only bottled water (including brushing our teeth). My wife and daughter did not get sick.
-Anniversary package was a joke. They did decorate our bed with rose petals beautifully and decorate our room door, but other than that just a couple of coupons that you can only use on an overpriced massage or overpriced bottle of wine.

In summary, the bad outweighed the good for us, but we made the best of it and had a good time. We will, however, not stay at an AM Resort next time we travel to Mexico.

Room Tip: Garden view is 1st floor by family (loud) pool. Walk out patio is nice, but upper levels would be quieter.

The quick synopsis: We weren't very impressed when we first arrived, but this ended up being one of our best family vacations and our kids loved the place.

We booked the hotel through Orbitz and got the Family Garden View Suite. Based on TripAdvisor reviews, we tried to upgrade to the Premier Club rooms directly with the hotel, but there was never any availability, so our room was on the first floor that led directly to the Adults Only area - the benefit was easy access to drinks at night but loud music when there was entertainment.

As we drove up and then got to the lobby, our first impressions were that this hotel seemed old, small, and dingy. This is not a grand, luxurious hotel but by the end of the first day, we had already changed our minds and were thoroughly enjoying ourselves.

I'll start with the two negatives of the trip - check-in and buffet food. We arrived around 1 and had to wait in line to check in. As in many hotels in Riviera Maya, the lobby is open-aired which means stifling hot, but it was expected. The check-in process was slow and we were told the room would be ready in about an hour or hour and a half, so we ate at the International Buffet and went swimming until about 2:45. I was told the room still wasn't ready but would be any minute, so waited in the lobby until the room was ready at 3:45. They were apologetic, but I just wished either the room were ready around 3 or that someone had told me.

The second, and only other negative, is that the International Buffet is small and the food is exactly the quality you would expect at a reasonably priced all-inclusive - spot-on average. Since we have small kids, they loved it and the waiters were incredibly friendly and took time to make sure our kids were happy. The only other place we tried was the Seaside Grill - the food there was much, much worse than the buffet - the fish was covered in oil and butter, the ceviche left much to be desired. The only thing we liked was the flank steak.

Other than the check-in and food, we quickly warmed up to the hotel itself. It is a smaller hotel - the lobby, pool, beach area are smaller than I expected, but the number of restaurants / bars, the quality of the entertainment were befitting a larger hotel. We absolutely loved the fire dancers on the beach!!! The staff constantly keep the property clean and they work hard to fill drinks, so there were never any lines. I'd recommend tipping for their hard work and great attitudes, even if it's just $1 or $2 - I noticed that they gave the same great service to everyone, whether they tipped or not, which made me even more appreciative of the people who work there.

The water in front of the hotel is relatively calm and shallow, so you can wade out all the way to the rocks at the end of the markers. This was a huge appeal, since our kids could go with us. I'd recommend water shoes and snorkeling gear - there are lots of little fish. However, as others have mentioned, make sure you follow the beach around the Mexican restaurant to a little bar with swings overlooking the ocean and a natural pool surrounded by the rocks. You can jump in the deep end from the rocks and it was a wonderful, serene experience - clearly our favorite part of the property.

We ended up arriving on a Monday and leaving on Friday, with one day spent at Xel-Ha. This was the perfect length and our kids left Mexico chanting "Best vacation ever!" If you decide to book your trip at Dreams PA and have the same impressions on arrival, keep an open mind - there are so many good things about the property, entertainment and the people that you really do make your own memories and experiences.

Room Tip: Family Garden Rooms open up to the Adults-Only pool/
