We stayed at the Sunscape Dorado Ixtapa in the thick of Spring Break - and I have to say that I was slightly apprehensive upon arrival. We are used to the large, expansive high end resorts of the Mayan Riviera, and this one, by comparison, is much smaller and less flashy. That said, we had the BEST time. The resort was clean (a MUST for me), the people were so friendly, and the beach was among the top I have ever been to. The ocean surf was high the whole week so swimming was not much of an option, but to body surf and play in the waves? Absolutely perfect! We never had to wait for food or drinks, and everyone was genuinely pleased to help us when we needed it. We have 3 kids, aged 8, 11 and 12, and they had a blast joining in with the Explorers Club activities when they felt like it (they had loads going on every day for kids and adults alike), eating at the Food Truck on their own, and drinking from the kids beverage bar constantly. Paola, the hotel concierge, was in contact with me regarding a birthday for one of my kids while we were there, and she went ALL OUT to make it the most amazing day for my daughter. My daughter is still talking about it - and honestly her party was way beyond what I had expected. Previous comments about the beds being awful - no way! We loved them, all 5 of us. The adjoining family room suited the 5 of us perfectly, and our views from the decks were out of this world, despite being on the side of the building overlooking the Emporio. I will say, that the neighbouring resorts can be loud at night (at odd times too, 2am or 4am party starts?!) but really, that can all be passed over with the positives for this place. We were there over Easter weekend which is a huge Mexican holiday time off, so I expect that played a role in the volume. The resort was packed mid week with Mexican Vacationers, but it just made for a more festive time and some great soccer on the beach! All in all, it is a perfect resort for families, and we all highly recommend it! Special thanks to Paola...you made our daughter feel so special! I dare not name all the bartenders and wait staff for fear of missing anyone...they are all amazing and we are so grateful!

Room Tip: Upper floors for the views, upper room numbers (eg, we stayed 1902/03...louder side, head to 1920's)

We visited this lovely resort in late Feb/early Mar, 2018 and very much enjoyed it. The rooms were very adequate and the ocean view was worth a few dollars extra. We were not able to get into the Sun Club as it was full, and we were fine with the regular services. We had asked to be higher up and thus quieter and were very satisfied. Food was a little limited in options, but generally quite good. I particularly appreciated the excellent yoga teacher, Miriam, who was there for the week. We usually found places on the beach though people did claim the prime spots early.

I appreciated other travelers' comments about the availability of affordable massages at the beach huts a short distance to the right of the resort. It was a treat to get a full hour massage from a well-trained girl for 200 pesos (under $12USD with tip!) We also took advantage of the hydrotherapy/mini-massage special at the resort which was 500 pesos but much more luxurious surroundings.

We felt safe walking on the beach and into the Ixtapa shopping area in the daytime; we never felt threatened. There were no concerns with tainted alcohol in the resort. The transportation from the airport took us directly to and from the resort so there was no concern for safety there either.

Room Tip: Ocean view is excellent. Higher floors are likely quieter.

Just got back from the Sunscape dorado, stayed for 2 weeks - March 14-29th.
Weather was spectacular! Beach was amazing. My son is 10 and loved to boogie board on the waves, you could not go out too far as the waves were quite big, you could walk either direction on the beach it was beautiful.
The rooms were nice we upgraded to the Sun premium, we had a nice room with extra perks, appys, drinks and just a place to relax and watch tv if you wanted.
We were on the top floor not looking directly at the beach we were on an angle we would have preferred to be right out front but we
were looking down at the other hotel next door.
The rooms were clean and our maid was great!
The staff were so friendly and accommodating always smiling and saying Hola!
We loved the pool and my son liked the kids area with the slides and the fancy drinks they make the kids, there was a snack machine food truck with great food, awesome hamburgers and fish tacos.
Drinks were great both the pool bar and the bar near the beach, we never had to wait for drinks, staff were quick and always smiling!
Breakfast at the buffet was fantastic the best meal of the day, they had staff making fresh crepes, pancakes, French toast and of course omelettes and eggs any way you like them.
Bluewater grill was an al a carte lunch and dinner menu was pretty good, buffet was not that extensive not a lot of variety we liked the italian night the best.
We loved the shops and restaurants across the street from the hotel, it was nice to be able to walk out of the hotel and have a meal elsewhere. We ate at Franks bar and grill pizza was awesome, sangria was good!
We also ate at the General's sports bar food was also good.
Deborah's restaurant was also good too.
Highly recommend the city tour if you have not been to Ixtapa before, we had never been and the tour was really great! The guide we had was very nice and had lots to tell us about Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo.
Also recommend the tour to Ixtapa island, our driver picked us up and took us to Playa Linda, took the water taxi to the island, there are 3 beaches, we saw lots of fish on the coral beach and also enjoyed the other beach on the other side, lunch was provided on the tour also.
Lorena was our sun premium representative, she was awesome! She went out of her way to make our trip that much more enjoyable, thank you so much Lorena for everything you did for us.
Simon and Ibeth at the pool bar were fantastic! Made great drinks and were always smiling and joking around with us.
Joel was our waiter at the blue water grill and also when we had our fabulous dinner on the beach thank you to Joel he was very good. Aaron was amazing! He was all over the place and was always going out of his way to make you happy and make sure you were having fun, we called him the energizer bunny!
Thanks again so much to all the staff and the activity staff as well, my son loved the water polo and beach volleyball, there was always something to do if you wanted to and if you did not want to do anything it was very relaxing too.
We loved the pool area as well, never had trouble finding a chair at the pool or on the beach. Everything was so clean and very well kept.
Thanks again so much to all the staff for making our stay that much more memorable.
We will be back again for sure.
Tom, Linda and Mitchell. New Westminster, Canada

Room Tip: Try to stay at the top floors and ask for our front directly looking at the beach

We had the best spring break family vacation with our 4 and 6 year old kids!

This hotel is perfect for kids around the ages of ours. The kids drink bar and splash pad area can't be beat. Our kids loved ordering the fancy kids drinks all by themselves. We also all loved the slides in the big pool.

The kids loved to go to kids club each day at 3:00, for craft time. That gave us a chance to check out the swim up bar, which was also very fun, and a nice break from full time kid duty.

The Trampoline Bungee was a hit, as well, as the AMAZING ocean, beach, and view.

They offered a free family photo session. We took advantage of that right at sunset, and the photos are a great addition to the hundreds that we took ourselves!

The waves were a bit strong for young kids to swim, so we did a day trip to Ixtapa Island, where we could all safely swim out in the calmer ocean waters, and try out snorkeling.

I was able to get a 1 hour massage right on the beach, a little bit down from the hotel for only $15, and it was one of the best massages I've ever had.

We did the Sun Club, and took advantage of the water bottles, appetizer, in room wi-fi, easier check-in/out, and most importantly room with 2 balcony's and an AMAZING view.

The drinks were awesome, the food was good/average. We really liked several of the meals we had.

The only thing that we would change on this trip would have been to stay a full week instead, of just 5 nights. We really hope to return again before our kids outgrow the awesome amenities for young families.

Room Tip: The Sun Club ocean front suites are AWESOME

My girlfriend and I just got home from a 5 night stay at this resort and overall, we are very happy with our trip. I had been to Mexico once before and she had never been. Ixtapa is a beautiful destination and we felt very safe venturing outside the resort. The staff was amazing and very entertaining. We stayed in a double room with a partial ocean view and it was awesome to sit on the balcony in the morning, watch the ocean, and drink our coffee. The resort is very well kept and we could tell the staff takes great pride in the work they do. If you have little to no Spanish speaking skills, you will be perfectly ok as most of the staff is fluent in English.

There were only a couple of things we found a little disappointing. One of those being the lack of nightlife in the resort. We felt this is partially due to the lull in activities at night. The entertainment/shows put on by the staff usually got done around 10 and the outdoor bar that hosts the night time parties didn't open until 11:00. 3 of the 5 nights we went back to our room during this time to hang out and just decided to stay in after getting comfy in our room. We talked to other people staying thee who expressed the same feeling. Another thing we felt would be better is if the pool bars opened a little earlier in the day. They opened at 11:00, which may seem early, but the pool was usually very busy by 10:00. That being said, we would still book here again without question.

Like I said, we are very happy with our experience and I highly recommend Sunscape Dorado Pasifico resort!
