Having been here seven times and being our favorite hotel in Lara we had no problem picking here for our eighth visit when the hotel we were originally staying at did not quite suit us.
we Arived on Wednesday 7th October after 4 days at the Paloma Renaissance,we were a located room number 1416 which is excellent with excellent side sea views to the mountains, they did say that it was an upgraded room but I am not sure it was,it cost an extra £400 to change and the Thomas Cook rep told me it was a luxury side sea view,if you book a normal side sea view you will get one overlooking the Kervansarry.
One of the main reasons we left the other hotel was that my wife was struggling to find something to eat, so knowing the food at the Barut to be excellent with excellent choices it was no brainer, unfortunately my wife still struggled here, and I have to admit for a Barut it really was not up to scratch, don't get me wrong it was nice with plenty of it but it was quite repetitive, not the usual variety we have come to expect,we even noticed the menu's in the A La Cartes were trimmed down, they seem to be cost cutting since the refurbishment last year.i also noticed this when ordering drinks in the evenings,I would ask for a Bailey's original and when it came it was the cheaper one,I do not blame the waiting staff for this but I believe the barman has been instructed to serve the cheaper brands where possible, the only way I could guarantee getting the correct drink was to go to the bar myself, some may say this is nit picking but we pay a premium to stay at these hotels and if branded drinks are included and they have them then we should be given them, this is probably the dearest hotel in Lara and it thrives on its reputation for offering excellent service and quality.....the service in general is still excellent the quality is unfortunately slightly lacking.i found service in the evening to be at times slow in the lobby, especially when most times there was only a handful of guests, the female waiters were excellent but I found the males to be less so,in fact one evening we were sat waiting whilst the lobby manager and a waiter were too busy talking to be bothered to serve us ,it took one of the females to do their job.these we're only slight problems and in no way spoilt our holiday...more just an anoyance but when you have been as many times as we have it is not something we expect and i know that we are not the only returning guests to have noticed this.
On a more positive note service in general was excellent in fact guest relations could not do enough for us,my wife is disabled and in a wheelchair and they where bending over backwards to help us,the hotel the grounds and the gardens where excellently well kept as usual, the room was very good with all the usual things we expect ,tea/coffee making facilities,a well stocked fridge, good sized flat screen TV, safe, robes and slippers, we got fruit and chocolates and wine on arival.the room was always clean and the A/C worked very well.you also get a pillow menu.as a wheelchair user the room did not pose many problems for my wife, they are not disabled rooms but the shower is a walk in type with a seat so it was ok.being relatively flat the hotel poses no problems for disabled guests.
the hotel was not overfull so there was no problem securing a sun bed in our favorite location.as for entertainment I can not really coment on that because we did not take in any of the shows.wifi was very good ,I did find we had to log in on numerous occasions but when conected it was good.
to summarise. ..if this is your first time at this hotel then you will absolutely love it and may even wonder what I am complaining about but as a long term loyal returning guest I just feel it is letting it's good name down in certain area's.and therfore on this occasion feel it only merits four stars.i have been as honest as I can and hope the hotel will put these things right....would we return!!!yes of course we would if we go back to Lara because even with these few niggles I still believe it is the best hotel that we have stayed at in Lara and that opinion has not changed.i have no doubt that we will be returning at some time in the not too distant future for our ninth visit.
