Great location, tasty food, and superb ambiance. Don’t go just prior to closing as this is not a late night place.

I stopped here twice during my visit to Morelia, once for dinner and again for breakfast. Had the local specialty aporreadillo, which is a dish of shredded beef with eggs and avocados. I had never tried this before. It was excellent. Requested spicy green salsa which complemented it well.

For breakfast, I had the Mother in law Chilaquiles with lamb and spicy green salsa. Also, excellent. Service was great and reasonable prices. Highly recommended!

If you are in downtown Morelia and it's time for lunch, head over to Restaurante Lu at the Hotel Casino, right in front of "Plaza de Armas"-which is the city's main square on the west side of Morelia's magnificent cathedral-you won't be disapointed.
Sit outside in the portal, watch the people go by and enjoy the beautiful background, then order any of Chef Lucero Soto's dishes and enjoy a very pleasant lunch.
That's what I did last Tuesday April 24th.
I had a delicious "Trucha de Zitacuaro al limon (Filet of trout in a lemon sauce with asparagus), a dish with locally sourced ingredients, I paired it with a glass of Chardonnay, but you can order other beverages of course.
The locals sit at the Portales's many cafes all day to enjoy a cup of coffee, so I ordered a cup of Americano and did the same after lunch.
Overall a very pleasant half afternoon taking in the wonderful sights and sounds of the city, (there are always some strolling local musicians serenading you, that afternoon was no exception).
I will be back in Morelia this year and plan to have lunch at Lu again.

Thank A C

Jennifer, at the woncderful B and B Casona Rosa, suggested that we try a meal at Lu. It was our first night in Morelia and we were looking for a dinner recommendaiton. We loved it! We ended up eating almost every single meal in Morelia at Lu, except for one other dinner one time. We had lunch and dinner there every other meal. They had incredible salads, and deserts, and fabulous frozen margaritas with mezcal.

So, after falling in love with these salads, and not having had many salads while in Mexico, we just continued to go back there for more meals. One of the deserts, with chocolate, takes 20 minutes to prepare, so we learned to order it as soon as our salads came, because that desert was really delicious.

You are right on the sidewalk in front of the Hotel Casino, so it is great for people watching along the main plaza, but there are a number of people who "sing" or "play" hoping for tips, and some times they are loud and it is hard to enjoy a quiet meal. But the food is well worth it.
