Two weddings and a convention

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 21 Apr 2014
My friends and I came to Ziva for a wedding and all enjoyed it. Those of us who were sloths loved soaking up the sun by the three pools, and the beach (although swimming in the ocean was a no go). The only disappointment was that the rooms had food for our enjoyment in our rooms and it was already stall or going bad. We broke open the saran wrap to show the food was "used" but it was not removed the next day. We ended up having to leave it outside, in the walkway, to get it out.

We loved the shower and the bathtub! Ahhh.... just what we needed after a hard day of working on our tans.

The pools were gorgeous, and the servers around the pool were amazingly attentive. There are three - the large one we began with in the morning, the "infinity" pool by the beach with the swim up bar where we moved to around noon, and the adult only pool in a courtyard between the towers where we moved to in the afternoon when the wind came up. While we didn't see the kiddie area, someone I spoke to with a child said it was fun.

There were two buffet dining rooms connected through the food service area and 1) an Italian restaurant (we didn't go to), 2) a French restaurant (delicious!), 3) a Japanese restaurant (get there early to get a seat at one of the two Teppanyaki areas), 4) a Spanish restautant (delicious ... note that the Spanish coffee costs $5 more), 6) a Steak House (we didn't go but there were comments about bottles with gruesome pickled piglets on display, and 7) a Seafood restaurant (supplied food for the wedding, and people were disappointed with the main course so no one we spoke to from our wedding group went to it for any additional meals). There was also a little taco shop by the large pool that allowed us to order lunch and snacks without leaving our suntanning job ... the guacamole was amazing.

Excusions - Most of us took taxis to San Jose and Cabo which were worthwhile. My roommate and I did a whale watching excursion (out of Cabo rather than San Jose so we could see the famous arches at the point) and saw humpbacks. If you go in the whalewatching season, do this! It was amazing. Others in the party did - horseback riding, ATVing, and deepsea fishing.

Room Tip: We got a room in the main building and it allowed us to be close to everything with a decent view...

Fantastic property. Helpful, pleasant staff, great restaurants and food, well made premium drinks. The all-inclusive concept reduced stress and eliminated being constantly "nickeled and dimed" for stuff, which made check out a breeze, one page 6 items for 5 days! Beautiful room, nice view of the ocean. Surf is very rough (you cannot swim directly in front of the hotel) and very loud, rattling our slider at night! Everyone takes dollars and tips were greatly appreciated but never "expected". Bring enough cash, small bills are very useful, be warned hotel ATM charges $25 US per transaction, OUCH! Short convenient flight from LA, new, clean airport, great overall vacation, we will be back!

Really great property and provided a much-needed four-day retreat. Beach and pools were amazing and very comfortable rooms. It's all inclusive, which was pretty cool. Had a couple small staff snafus but overall pretty great. Two needs for improvement: No dance club at night, it just would have been nice. And getting something to eat late at night was a pain and room service was just too slow. 4/5 tho and I will come back.

This was our second time visiting this resort. The first time was last Easter when it was still the Barcello Palace Deluxe. Things have only gotten better since the Hyatt Ziva now owns the property! We enjoyed the resort last year, but the Hyatt Ziva has made some positive changes. No longer do you have to make reservations for the a la carte restaurants which is fantastic. We had a party of 6 and a few times there were no wait times and a few times we had to wait 30 to 40 minutes at the busiest time of the evening so that's reasonable. We really enjoyed the steak house and the Teppanyaki Grill! The French and Italian were okay. The Breakfast and Dinner Buffets were fantastic! The Bar Service around the pool was pretty good; however, I wouldn't say that the Bar Tenders were overly friendly compared to some of the places we have visited; some didn't move very quickly either.... However, the Hyatt now has gentleman that walk around the pool all day to ensure that everything is going well and asking if anything is needed. Ricardo Palafox did a great job of this. He brought an umbrella if we needed and made sure we had the drinks we liked! The Hyatt now also has them coming around the pool once/day with a basket of treats to hand out. One day it was battered shrimp on a stick, there was frozen pineapple with coconut, fruit kebobs and ice cream. A nice touch they have added! It no longer is a big deal to get a towel. Towels are always laid out on the chairs and easy to get another one if needed. We really enjoyed some of the entertainment that was at the Lobby bar in the evenings; we just wish there was entertainment every night. The value of this resort is great; we've stayed at a couple of Secrets resorts as well as the El Dorado Royale and Seaside in the Mayan this is more economical; however in order to get the premium alcohol such as Grey Goose, Crown Royale, etc. you have to upgrade at the Hyatt to a Premium whereas in the other resorts we've stayed at it's included, but the cost of those resorts were more expensive. Overall a good experience!

rooms very clean and appointed well. throughout all the grounds, were looked after with great care.
easy check in and check out. Bryan Adrian was awesome leading beach volleyball, pool aerobics, and just seemed to be everywhere helping guests have a great time. The infinity pool with swim up bar seemed like the best place to be, and the warmest water, beach was beautiful. We mostly ate at the buffet (with kids this was the easiest), but still made friends and experienced the steak house (hacienda) and Japanese (lotus), both much better than what was reported. also the italian restaurant (capri).
Just one note.. we have a 7 and 10 year old, and wish they just had a little more activities for the

Room tip: we stayed in the newer building (3) very nice. A little noisy from the hotel next door, just a little annoying
