“Charming compact cottage centrally located in the lovely Cotswolds”
Reviewed 12 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

The cottage is extremely characteristic of an original picture postcard Cotswold cottage situated in a quiet lane just outside Stow on the Wold. We found it very central to visit all the local towns and in our opinion Stow has to be, by far, the best of all. The cottage is beautifully presented and extremely well equipped there is everything you would have at home. We stayed 6 nights, sometimes this flexibility is not available with other cottages. A couple of slight issues were the back door lock is extremely hard to use we were locked out twice for a short period as our parents had taken the front door keys for a separate outing - the garden area is very pretty and well maintained and has a useful raised decking area with table and chairs but was very small for 4 adults staying for a week and was very close to 5-6 other gardens - we had a lot of chat to catch up on but had to be very aware to keep our voices down. We did quite a bit of walking - there are extremely helpful maps and walking guides provided in the cottage and there are easy long strolls either direction just outside the door. After walking we normally like a quiet glass of wine/beer in a nearby pub late afternoon but both local pubs although utterly charming and easily walkable closed in the afternoon and reopened later in the evening.

Management Response

Thank you,

We are glad you had a good time at the cottage, and we really appreciate you making time to post a review with constructive feedback.

We are sorry about the incident with the garden door. As well as getting our carpenter to look into this issue you’ve just raised, we are going to give our future guests a second set of keys to avoid any repeat going forward.

For the benefit of everyone reading your review, we would like to respond to a couple of your points.

First, as regards our two local pubs’ opening times. They are effectively closed in the afternoon, but only from about 3 to 6pm. Also, this is nothing special to Oddington. Whilst in market towns such as Stow pubs stay open through the afternoon, in the Cotswolds the vast majority of village inns are closed between lunch and dinner.

As for your comment about our garden being ‘very close to 5-6 other gardens’, it leaves us perplexed...

Sure, as shown by the pictures on this web page, the garden is not large. And yes, there are 2 properties with adjacent gardens, hidden from view but close enough. There are not 5-6 of them, though. Also, we hardly ever have any unpleasant noise or disturbance from people in either of these 2 gardens – and in 10 years of renting out the house we hadn’t had a single comment in this respect, online or in our guest book.

Overall, practically it is not really clear to us what your concerns were…

If anyone interested in possibly renting out the cottage wanted to get more clarity about this, they would find it from our guest book and the official map of Oddington’s conservation area, which are both part of the information package we send to all our prospective guests. The map shows every house and garden in the village in enough detail to take a view about what lies in ours’ immediate surroundings.

Clarifications aside, we’d like to thank you again for sharing such a thoughtful review.

Warmest wishes from both of us,

Jenny and Emmanuel

“Wonderful week away in the beautiful Cotswolds”
Reviewed 29 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

The cottage is lovely and exactly as advertised - cozy and extremely well-equipped. Everything was very well organized by Coral and Emmanuel. We were even greeted by some fresh eggs from Coral's farm. The surrounding countryside is just beautiful and we went on lots of long walks. We also spent a day at nearby Daylesford farm and spa, which was a real treat. Highly recommend this cottage as a calm getaway from city life!

“The perfect little gem”
Reviewed 30 March 2015 for a stay in March 2015

From the moment we arrived at Rose Cottage we knew that we had made an excellent choice. We had discovered the perfect gem in a little corner of Paradise!
Everything was immaculate - freshly painted walls throughout, comfortable beds, bed linen/towels as one would expect. The kitchen is ideal for those who love to cook - well stocked with an abundance of utensils. We could not fault anything! All in all - enchanting!

“Lovely owners, amazing cottage, beautiful village”
Reviewed 28 March 2015 for a stay in March 2015

if I could rate this cottage higher then 10/10 I would. Rose cottage is truly special, full of character and ambience of what you would expect of an old cotswold cottage. The owners Emmanuel and Jenny communicated so efficiently and left us with so much information regarding our stay in Rose cottage. When we arrived there were beautiful fresh flowers in the vases, and lovely provisions to get us started for our stay. There is everything you could possibly want for your stay including toiletries etc and the kitchen was so well equipped I could find everything I needed and so much more! The location of the cottage is absolutely ideal for great walks and nearby villages like Stow and Bourton. I was actually very sad at leaving this wonderful place with its cosy fireplace but determined to come back again very soon.

“An excellent choice for a family Christmas”
Reviewed 5 January 2015 for a stay in December 2014

Rose Cottage in the village of Oddington is a beautifully preserved and well-appointed house, with all the comforts our family of four could have wanted for our Christmas holiday, including a handy and well-equipped kitchen, a cozy sitting/dining room, good-sized bedrooms, modern bathroom -- and a superb fireplace! Advance communication from the owners was helpful and thorough and the welcome we received at the Horse and Groom pub around the corner and from our temporary neighbours made the whole experience very relaxing and positive. Thank you Rose Cottage!
