I stayed for three nights and overall enjoyed my stay. The common spaces are well-appointed and comfortable. Bring groceries as there is nowhere in Pleasant Bay to buy anything more than a handful of basics and the store closes early. Another toilet would be nice as it's very unpleasant to have to wait in the morning to pee while people shower (only three bathrooms and each had toilet, sink and shower in one room).

I stayed in the bunkhouse and the first night was great, with singles and couples who all understood the hostel experience and how to live respectfully with others. A group came in for the next two nights and they were less aware. However, that's not the fault of the hostel and overall it was a good experience.

The manager is excellent and full of local knowledge. Make sure to see the sunsets!

Nice hostel, glad we took this option. My friend was skeptical as we had a shared bunk room, but thoroughly happy we stayed there. Inviting and clean and easy to find and well-located. We are 39 and 42. All ages. Not a party hostel.

We stayed here while traveling the Cabot Trail and truly enjoyed our experience! The owner is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, and we really enjoyed chatting with her! There is not much to do in Pleasant Bay (we came here to go Whale Watching) and there is no cell service (although the free Wifi offered at the hostel is excellent!). We spent time watching the sunset at the beach and had dinner at the Rusty Anchor. We spent the rest of our time socializing with people staying at the hostel!

I stayed here with a larger group in the 10 bed bunk house. With 2 kitchens, a BBQ, a long dining table, 2 couch setting areas + a deck the hostel is set up well to deal with large groups.

All the comforts of home where there and the lady working the 2 days that we were there was more than happy to impart local knowledge about things to see in the area.

Make sure you walk down to the beach and make sure you have time to enjoy a sunset!

There is a small store across the road that sells icecream and sweet stuff if you need a quick fix...

This was our first stay in a hostel and it was the best experience we could have hoped for. When we got there at 5 for check in, it was so quiet we thought we were getting the place to ourselves. It quickly turned into quite the party and we wouldn't have had it any other way. As we finished dinner, everyone started showing up and looking for a place to stay. We befriended a man named Ramsey who was cycling across Canada for the hell of it and it was great listening to his stories. Dawn (the lady who checked us in) sat and chatted with us until she left at approx 9 and she was very friendly and inviting. Great price for a friendly place to sleep.

Couple notes: book the private room, its worth it to have your own space
Get groceries elsewhere, they only have a general store with few food items
No cell phone service but the hostel does have wifi
