La bottega del fattore in Castelnuovo Di Garfagnana - what a find! We stumbled across this place mid afternoon and questioned was it even open?! We were the only two people and we were given the undivided attention of the husband and wife team and were spoilt rotten. There was no menu...We left the food decision to them and out came a mixed antipasto plate full of local delicacies and home made pesto-topped breads, panzanella, pickled baby zucchini, cheeses and meats, all famous of the area. The first bottle of home made wine was soon replaced with a second different one, both of which were chosen by our hosts. Porcini tagliatelli was next, followed by the famous cantucci in vin santo (made by a local nonna). We weren't allowed to leave until photos were taken, glasses of grappa consumed and a bottle taken with us! What an afternoon. If you want a REAL Tuscan experience, don't hesitate!! I understand they also have accommodation however we were staying in Lucca and hence only stayed for lunch.More
