Italy is always full of happy surprises and Ramuse certainly filled our expectations. The old family house restored beyond its former glory has become a haven for visitors, big and small. Six bedrooms decorated in a rather monastic style, with traditional materials (travestino tiles, wooden shutters, hand made pottery bathroom sinks) and with some great views over the Sibilli mountains and the nearby Force village up on a hill. Here, the only noises you will hear will be produced by the cats yawning in the sun, the two donkeys strolling by or even the host's beloved truffle dog, Trilli, all very well behaved.
Paolo's passion for agriculture, eco-friendly environment, locally produced fruit and vegetables comes out with the dishes he lovingly prepares. All very simple but organically grown, many from his own garden. You will taste the home made jams, the fresh pasta spiced with the garden herbs, the cakes prepared with vino cotto (a mulled wine) and served for breakfast. Twice a week, Paolo comes up with delicious scrambled eggs (from his own hens). Everything is jolly, true to life and one cannot help leaving Ramuse with a refreshed sense of happiness. We took with us a few bottles of the Ramuse olive oil, produced with Paolo's Ascola olives. I wish I could have bought more but alas one is limited by weight on Ryanair flights ! And do taste the wines on offer : there is a small selection of what the local vineyards grow but very well-sourced.
