The place is easy to find and looks good from the outset. The bathroom in the room was probably the cleanest, brightest and best ventilated bathrooms of any hotel I stayed at in Mexico. The location is great and it has free parking. Awesome.

The only downside is that the staff were thoroughly disinterested in anything and seemed to take it as a personal affront that someone was disturbing their day by wanting to check in, and god forbid you should ask that the door to the garage should get opened to park the car... In fairness, the cleaners were friendly enough.

For the price I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

Rooms are very simple, but extremely clean, peaceful and well kept. Very close to the plaza. We enjoyed our stay very much

If you've gotten this far you have probably heard about all there is to say. I lived in San Miguel for years (years ago) and am probably more familiar with it than any other town. We still have undeveloped property there but live in another part of Mexico. When we visit, the Parador is our first choice. About the only drawback is the limited parking, and occasionally late night/early morning noise by partying Chilangos or visiting students returning to their rooms The Chilangos - or Capitalinos - aren't particularly discreet, nor sensitive to other guests seeking a thorough night's sleep. Otherwise, it is inconceivable you could find a better bargain. Especially if you're young at heart, thrifty, adventurous, and have a sense of humor.

We chose this hotel based on the favorable reviews here on Trip Advisor and were not disappointed. Because we arrived on Friday of a holiday weekend, there was only one double room available. We were a little worried that the room would be noisy since it was right off the patio on the ground floor. It was actually fairly quiet.

We loved waking to the sound of chirping birds, both wild birds that perched on the many plants around the open-air patio as well as the cages of parakeets.

The central patio is a pleasant place to sit as were the comfortable chairs in the covered passageway outside our room. Though the rooms do not have televisions, there is a TV/reading room at the back of the patio where people congregated in the evening.

The room was spotlessly clean, the beds were firm and comfortable, and there was plenty of closet space (though only one hanger, so you might want to bring a few of your own). There was plenty of hot water and good water pressure in the shower. We were happy to find the room had a ceiling fan as the room was a bit stuffy with the window closed.

The staff was very friendly and helpful.

We will definitely stay in this hotel the next time we visit San Miguel overnight.

Parador San Sebastian Review - 3 stars

Parador san Sebastian located on Mesones Street in San Miguel de Allande is an excellent location for exploring this small city by foot. The sunny, plant filled courtyard is great for reading or working on your computer. The staff is cordial, but does not go out of their way to be friendly. I paid 350 pesos per night for a two night stay. Apparently they don't take reservations (as per this review board) but they had a sign stating that you can call them for reservations?

After reading the positive reviews on TripAdivisor I decided to try the place out, and as per instructed by previous guests, asked to see more than one room. The first single "habitation" the hostess showed me was in the front portion of the hotel. It seed a little darker than I was used to. The second choice was in the Rear Addition. It looks like at one point they decided to add-on to the place. These rooms are on two levels and drenched in sunshine by day (aka bright first thing in the morning with no drapes on the frosted glass doors)

I opted for the latter sun filled room. The room itself was fine..nice double bed, fresh paint, great bathroom, ample lighting, extra blankets (only one electrical outlet) The problems were as follows:
On the adjacent property there was a couple of dogs that barked all day. I asked the management about it and they said it wasn't their property and they could do nothing. Second problem. There seemed to be a Mexican cantina that played loud thumping musica all night. Luckily I had ear plugs, but you could still feel the "beat".

In hindsight, I would have opted for the slightly darker room, thinking it would have sheilded me from the noises day and night. The hotel itself seems to be well run, clean and safe. Choose your room carefully. Also...big warning. In Mexico you need to put the little plastic covers over the shower drain (and sink drain if applicable) to keep out the methane gasses. I did not realize this until later and was suffering bad headaches and congestion. I have to give this place 3 stars based on the rear addition of the hotel. Sorry San Sebastian! I do recommend this place, but only for rooms up front
