Description: MuRo Named after the two surnames of one of the two guys who own it, Cafe MuRo open in Loreto Street stayed there from May 2010 to recently when it moved to its new venue at 1 San Gabriel St. in the beautiful Barrio del Obraje, just few setos from Fabrica La Aurora. It has been known for the quality of food and friendship of the staff- Cafe MuRo is a prestigious establishment well known for its cozy and homey atmosphere and popularity with locales and foreigners. Many regulars bring out-of-town visitors who want to get a "feel" of Mexican flavors in a not pretentious place. Cafe MuRo is much more a pleasant than the location might suggest. Not much to look at from the street, until you spy the delicacies within. The menu consists of simple, well-cooked, fresh and traditional Mexican food. Wonderful home-bread and soups, salad, good-sized portions, and fair prices make it a great place for everybody. Staff is friendly and helpful. When you come to MuRo, you are guaranteed a good meal and friendly service everybody time. Highlights include breakfast all day, a salad to die for and strong Mexican cofee that will knock you out. We assure you that once you are sitting in Cafe MuRo enjoying its food and service, you might want to stay longer that you originally tought! See you soon!

We walked to their new location from our house in Guadalupe. Great location near Fabrica Aurora in a neighborhood on the side of a hill. The eggs Benedict was one of the best that I have had in any restaurant. The only downfall is that the meal was a little lukewarm. It is cold this time of year, and it may be a problem in SMA in general. We had also gone to another high end restaurant with the same issue. We would definitely return and try some of the other dishes. The service was great, and the owners/management thanked us for supporting them. Take a look upstairs at the cool photos of the Day of the Dead celebration. The view from the roof is spectacular. They anticipate serving drinks here soon.

Cafe Muro has always been great. We went to the Loreto site for breakfast and it had disappeared! No sign on the door or any help, but a near-by shop gave us directions. It is now at San Gabriel #1, in the Obraje neighborhood. A bit of a hike from town center, in a new building in a residential neighborhood, at the end of the street. Very nice, modern, totally new space, but our meal was excellent. Good portions, excellent food, good value. Still highly recommended, and worth the hunt to find it.

Four of us met for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. The new location is somewhat tucked away in the Obraje neighborhood. It's at the top of a steep dead end street, at San Gabriel #1. The old address on Loreto is no longer valid. If you don't know the northern end of the city well, it might be better to take a cab. There is some street parking, but it can be tight.

The new building was purpose-built. Two stories of bright, light-filled, contemporary eating with a charming roof deck. The second and third levels have marvelous views over the city. I had the marinated flank steak. It was served with refried black beans, pico de gallo, and a cactus paddle (nopal.) Very good indeed. The service was attentive and flawless. I would very much recommend the Muro Cafe for an informal meal with friends or family. For this lunch, which included two beers and a glass of (chilled, unfortunately) red wine, we walked away at about $8 U.S. per person including gratuity.

Congratulations to Gerardo and Carlos on their gorgeous new three-story location in Obraje. It is a short walk past Calzada de la Luz - take the first right in Obraje and follow the street and then easy path to the left to the back of the restaruant (or you can go a street further to the front). The new architecture is stunning with floor to ceiling windows and lots of light pouring in. They now offer full bar service, and there is outside dining on the first floor with a lovely fountain. The third floor also has a full bar, and the views of San Miguel are amazing. The food is as delicious as ever, with a couple of new menu items. And perhaps the best thing of all is the wonderful ambience that Gerardo and Carlos create. Yes, it may be a little further to travel - but more than worth the effort.

Café Muro has moved to a stunning multi-level contemporary building, designed to the specifications of owners Gerardo and Carlos. The new Muro is much more spacious, open on several levels, with numerous artisan touches, plus a roof terrace overlooking the city. Sunlight streams through huge floor to ceiling windows all day, and a cactus dotted hillside nestles against the walls.

After years of being a beloved Go-To spot on Loreto in the center of town, Muro just relocated to this viewpoint location. To be honest, they’ve exchanged a bit of the intimacy of the former Muro for the increased potential of the new, but their wonderful staff, and embracive atmosphere, which made Muro so beloved of San Miguelians, remains unaltered. As does the menu, which is full of their own special twists on familiar dishes.

We have happily visited there three times in the past two weeks, and are returning again soon. Muro becomes a habit.

Their new address is San Gabriel #1 in Colonia Obraje, a residential neighborhood just 4 minutes’ taxi ride north of Centro.
Take a taxi (it’s a steep uphill climb), but then slowly stroll back into town after your meal, about 10-15 minutes depending on your pace.
Carlos and Gerardo will also call a taxi for you, should you prefer riding home.

Truly, it is well-worth the extra distance to share delicious meals with these very special people in their stunning new home.
