We ended up at the Silver Birch after we discovered that the place we had booked for a week in the Kougibougouac Park area did not have several of the amenities advertised on its website and asked for our money back. We then just drove until we found a motel and the Silver Birch was the first one we stumbled across. We booked a room for one night while we regrouped - but ended up staying the entire week.
The motel is within easy driving distance to Kougibougouac National Park, La Pays de la Sagouine, the Bouctouche Dune Eco-Centre, and other area attractions.
The rooms are very simple but very adequate - ours had a bed, a vanity outside the bathroom, a kitchenette, a desk, and to our surprise, a sofa. We were surprised at the size and the amenities, especially since the room was just $84CAD/night. It's a classic non-chain, mom-and-pop motel of the region.
The motel boasts a restaurant that features real traditional diner fare and lots of fresh seafood. The staff is outstanding, pleasant and helpful. We were made to feel more than welcome. It has free wireless internet (although the signal doesn't reach every room in the motel so if it's important to you, make sure you ask for one near the network router). It also has a VERY - VERY - bare-bones lounge/bar - with some very eccentric murals - but if you choose to pop in for a cold one after a day of sightseeing, tourists are made welcome and the locals are pleasant. It's not fancy, so if you're looking for luxury accommodation, look elsewhere. But if you, like us, are seeking a clean, pleasant, affordable home base from which to explore this region, definitely give it a look.
We were so impressed with it as an affordable, friendly, simple place that I requested TripAdvisor list it so that I could review it. I felt they deserved a positive review.
