Stay in private Cabanas on the beach!
Review of Cabanas La Luna
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 24 Apr 2017
The hotel driver picked us up at the airport and brought us to La Luna. As soon as I stepped out of the van, my feet hit the sand. This hotel is entirely in the sand and felt like a tropical beach paradise. The thing that impressed me the most was the friendly, helpful staff. Miguel greeted us upon arrival and patiently answered all our questions, gave us advice on things to do in the area and made us feel right at home. By the end of our four days there, we felt like part of the family and knew the staff by name. The food was delicious and meals were served in their nicely decorated, outdoor restaurant or on the beach, while lounging in the comfortable beach chairs they provide. A lovely, free continental breakfast and super delicious Mexican coffee was provided each morning. My husband and I traveled with our 8 and 9 year old sons. All of us thought the place was paradise. I can't imagine why you'd stay anywhere else when visiting Tulum. The staff at La Luna know how to do hospitality right and we are grateful for our wonderful stay with them. We stayed in Marrakech cabana. It had two queen size beds, a clean bathroom, purified water, and the MOST BEAUTIFUL private porch overlooking the beach and palm trees. We woke up to the sounds of tropical birds and ocean waves. It was perfect! It was just the right size for our family of four. The only down side was that the beach had a lot of seaweed, BUT the staff diligently worked to remove it every day, helping to create a clean, beautiful beach for guests. We loved this place! I hope we are lucky enough to return someday.

My visit started late at night and Cabanas was prepared. The crash of the waves helped me sleep and I woke up to an amazing beach. There were plenty of sun beds and the servers were very helpful throughout the day. The cabanas were clean and stayed that way with the help of the housekeeping staff. It was a great visit, I'll be back next year. FYI... this area is foodie heaven, but bring cash as most restaurants take cash only.

Cabana La Luna is quaint slice of barefoot paradise, and an incredible value for the price. It retains some of the laid back backpacker magic that I imagine is what drew people to Tulum decades ago - prior to the fashion blogger pack rolling in. I want to give a shout out to the Miguel at the front desk who made everything from our reservation to our check out a breeze, and helping us arrange for a great day in the cenotes.

Location: Cabana la Luna is located in the middle of the Tulum beach strip, and it is literally right by the ocean. We had the room considered further away from the ocean, but that really meant I had to walk 5 seconds to see the beach compared to waking up to it.

Rooms: The rooms would be closer to a bed and breakfast than a hotel, but for the price I was incredibly pleased. Beds are comfortable, it's very clean, spacious and bathrooms were fine. Do note that air conditioning is not very strong and is turned off during the day, it did not bother me but a flag to those who care very much. Like all other places - showers are with salt water. If you are travelling with a group, I would highly recommend this hotel as even though there are only a handful of rooms they have larger suites suitable for a group and not just a couple (unlike majority of other hotels on the beach strip)

Amenities: Restaurant is open throughout the day and both food and service is fine
Beach: The beach area is a bit smaller but quite lively

Service: Everyone was incredibly friendly and kind!

Room tip: Garden Suite is great for a group!

Dear Yiping W,
Thank you very much for your kind message. We are so happy to hear that you had such a nice stay with us. Miguel is great and we are very happy to have him at La Luna! The location of the hotel could not be better, right on the beach, and, as you mention, even if you do not stay right at one of the beachfront cabanas, you are just a few steps from the beach and the great Caribbean Sea. We love having groups at La Luna and, actually, the distribution of the rooms in a little village confirguration makes it very comfortable and cosy for groups as they feel very close. Thank you very much again and we look forward to your next visit! Kind regards

Absolutely lovely hotel with comfortable rooms, perfect location and a tremendous staff that makes this a special place.

Was celebrating a birthday, with multiple rooms, various arrivals and departures and many different needs and requirements. Despite varied and fluid agendas Idoya and her team where beyond helpful and ensured an enchanting few days.

Rooms
Villa Zanzibar has four bedroomed (all kings) with its own pool and multiple seating options. The rooms are lovely, two downstairs ensuite, the two upstairs with a shared bathroom. The beds are comfortable with small but functional bathrooms. The AC runs 7pm thru 7am. Overall the rooms are solid 8s.

Living areas / kitchen
The villa has a fully equipped kitchen with a large fridge and oven. We used it as the pre-dinner meeting spot, with hotel catered bar and this was a huge success.

Swimming pool
The kids loved the pool -- it's more than a plunge pool -- and it comes with four deck lounges and a table with six chairs. Also, two hammocks.

Restaurant and bar
We did a taco party the first night. It was buffet style with chicken, pork and vegetarian options. The food was very nice, solid 7s, service amazing and the overall feel made for a perfect start to the weekend.

The complimentary continental breakfast is fresh fruit juice, fruit and bread. It's fresh but basic and we usually ordered eggs or pancakes at extra cost. I'd rate the breakfast a 8.

La Luna's charm and location are complimented by Idoya and her team made for an amazing four days. I could not recommend this place more.

Thank you so much 😊

Such a beautiful, Mexican palapa style beach resort! It is located about midway down the Tulum beach stretch and seems to be one of the more reasonably priced hotels in this line-up. The service in the restaurant was excellent (though restaurant is fairly pricey by Mexican standards).

When we were greeting at the drive way they immediately told us it was a "shoes off" resort which we loved. White sand everywhere between the little cabins and restaurant (with food baths to enter your rooms and dining). Little paths lead from the cabins down to a lovely sand beach. When we were there, we had a cute stray donkey hanging out on the beach.

During our stay there was a bit of an influx of seaweed but Cabanas La Luna was right on racking it up in early morning and our stretch was some of the cleanest sand in the area.

Room tip: We stayed in Robinson Crusoe, smallest, cheapest, one of the closest to beach.

Dear LeavingSeattle,
Thank you very much for your review! It is great to read that you enjoyed so much staying with us. It is so nice to take your shoes off and just walk around stepping on the white sand! La Luna is a comfortable and familiar hotel and we always try to improve the experience of our clients: if we managed we are very happy! Our staff from the maintenance department work very hard to have the beach clean and ready for the guests to have a great time on the beach from the moment you wake up! Thanks and hope to see you soon! Best regards

La Luna is a treasure. I spend a little over a week here and have not an only point of critique. It's beach, las cabañas, the atmosphere around the pool and the wonderful ceviche from La Lunas owned restaurant. Thank you!
