My wife Natasha and I have just got back from an 8 day Trip at Alaya and had the most wonderful and phenomenal Honeymoon and stay. When we arrived they gave us a bottle of Champagne and checked us into our Eco friendly Beach Hut suite 2. It was a large room, we loved it because there are unobstructed views to the beach. You could hear the waves crashing from inside and there is tons of space... At first we were worried about the sea noise but it was very relaxing and exactly what we both wanted, we had a quiet and peaceful time. The location of the hotel is wonderful for your stay in Tulum.

We really enjoyed the breakfast each morning with our new friend, (waiter) Christian. The omelets were good but my favorite was the poached eggs which is pretty much a delicious Mexican dish, the coffee was to die for... We are still dreaming of the views at breakfast each morning- what a great way to start your day in paradise!!! The service we received at reception and at the restaurant whether it was breakfast, lunch was always outstanding! Christian, Rolando (Hotel Manager), Kat and Marta at (Reception) and the rest of the staff are committed to ensuring that you have an enjoyable experience! Another added bonus is shoes aren't required, nor are they needed in the restaurant - it's all sand, so leave your expensive heels at home!

Alaya sits on the best part of the beach, offers towel service along with comfortable beach chairs, umbrellas and tables too! You will not be disappointed in their beach - it's gorgeous!!! We did dine out on a few occasions. Here is a listing of the places that offered fantastic food and great service.

Casa Banana (dinner)
Posado Margherita (dinner - features fresh made pasta)
Gitano (dinner)
Ahau Restarant (dinner) have the Octopus it's amazing!

My wife and I like to explore while on vacation so here's a listing of our activities. We Hired a motorbike for 8 days for 200 US Dollars, we went into the pueblo of Tulum - You can also take a Taxi. All taxis accept US dollars, but ask the price before getting into the car because the price can differ depending on their mood. We had a terrific lunch at Don Cafeto's - authentic Mexican food with live music and a great location for people watching.

We went to Tulum Ruins, Go in the morning while it's cool and less crowded. The site opens at 8a. The admission price is 57 pesos - The park does not accept credit cards or US dollars. Rent bikes for the day. The cost ranges between 100 and 120 pesos for a daily rental. The closest place to Alaya to rent bikes is at the Playa Azul Hotel. Book a snorkel trip to Akumal beach. The reef here is also excellent for snorkeling. Snorkel Casa Cenote. Day trip to Valladolid and the Chichen Itza ruin site, which is about 90 minutes from Tulum. This park is larger than Tulum and is home to the tallest pyramid in the Yucatan peninsula at 138 ft.

Tulum is not commercially overdeveloped like a lot of other tourist towns in Mexico. A large number of the hotels in the hotel zone are very basic, a lot of which don't offer air conditioned rooms, but Alaya is one of the few that do. Keep this in mind when researching hotels. I highly recommend Alaya, it's a magical, Charming Boutique Hotel, you will not be disappointed!!!

Room Tip: Beach Hut 2, higher floor I n my eyes is the best but they are all amazing

My girlfriend and I booked Alaya Tulum after considering their sister site, Ahau, because it was slightly cheaper. We booked four nights - two in a Garden Villa and two in a Beachfront Suite (we wanted to end the trip in style). We arrived and were amazed at how beautiful the property is. We spent the first two nights in the Garden Villa room at the back of the property and were completely comfortable. Back of the property is sort of misleading because it's about a 30second walk to the beach from there. The room was clean and we had a great breeze coming from the ocean. Both hot and cold water and an air conditioner that comes on from 7pm to 8am.

After the first two nights we moved to the Beachfront Suite and it's exactly as named - beachfront. Amazing view and completely relaxing to be right on the beach. Same amenities as the previous room too.

The staff was generous and accommodating - we felt like we were staying with friends. Since the place is fairly new they were still awaiting their license to sell alcohol from theor restaurant but right next door there's a bar on the beach, so we were always within one minute of a cocktail on the beach. Would definitely recommend staying!

The Alaya experience was just the best in Tulum. We had a bad experience at two different hotels before arriving at Alaya where the service, the rooms and the overall experience was phenomenal. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Tulum.

I spent almost a full week at the Hotel Alaya in early May. It was an absolute dream. The rooms (if you can call them that, more like bungalows) are so beautiful. Built with ecology in mind, they are simple enough that they don't over shadow the beauty of Tulum, with smart, simple touches that feel almost luxurious. The staff was so friendly and accommodating, and by the end, I felt like some were even friends.

The beach is very private compared to others on the Tulum strip - it's a lovely and quiet place to come back to after a day of exploring and being social with all Tulum has to offer.

I would find it very hard to visit Tulum again and NOT stay at Alaya.

We had such an amazing stay on all levels. I truly can't say enough good things about Alaya. Not only were the rooms and property beyond gorgeous (and new!), but the people and staff just completed that perfect package by being so friendly and gracious to us during our stay. It's also in a great location on the beach...walking distance to any restaurants, but far south enough that it's not too busy. Definition of paradise :)
