Awesome cenote with a great tour to go with it. Chilly water was refreshing for me, but if you don't like 70 degree water, rent a wetsuit.

We visited Sac Actun on the recommendation of employees at our Hip Hotel Tulum. They also arranged a private driver for us which was a great idea. This closed cenote is one of the coolest activities we've ever done: you swim with an optional snorkeling mask on a guided tour of the caves with fresh, clear water. It's totally amazing to see the stalagmites, fossils and other things like bats who live in these underground areas. After the tour, we had lots of time to take great photos too.

When visiting the Mayan Riviera you must get to visit and live the cenote experience.

These natural caves were formed due to the meteorite collision which is also believed to have ended with dinosaurs. There are more than 8.000 cenotes in the Yucatán peninsula and they are all connected.

Sac Actun is just a few kilometers away from Cenote Dos Ojos (a very popular Cenote so expect it to be crowded) and it is said to be one of the biggest. It’s made by two different formations: the pet cemetery and the white cave.

With 420 MXN (20 USD) you will get a life vest and a snorkeling mask with which you will be guided to dive and discover this beautiful natural wonder.

While swimming in the Cenote be prepared to find some small fish which will swim along with you, as well as bats living in the caves.

I’m pretty sure prices will be lower if you go during low season...

Worthwhile, fun and different.

You may want to wear a wetsuit to keep warmer (not much sun in this cenote) but you prob do not need to per se.

You are rented snorkel gear, but there is very little to look at underwater. The caves and stalagtite formations are the cool part.

Sac Actun involves walking through underwater caves and caverns full of stalactites. You can wear a snorkel and view the underwater formations too. I chose to wear a short wet suit to keep warm but I was the only one in the group that did, we were 10 people. Not as busy as some of the more accessible cenotes but definitely worth the 20 minute ride from the highway.
