We have just spent 2 weeks for a family reunion, it is a great hotel. Mainly geared for the younger set as it is so close to 5th avenue and all the night life. However we have had an awesome time with the entertainment staff looking after us very well. Dennis, Danny,Cesar ,Omar, Kathy and Theresa, not forgetting George were great fun to be with . Ellie in the Spice restaurant was another worth a mention. This was a sisters reunion with us all spread around the world.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent. Downstairs around the pool would be a lot noisier. We were on the second fl...

Let me start by sayin that the hotel is gorgeous, good food, nice rooms and on top of it all AMAZING people. We had te bad luck of having eome rainy afternoons but the entrataient staff made up for it. It is absolutley the funnest most charismatic activity staff I'VE EVER MET! (Omar, Cesar, Jorge, Dennis, Tere and Kathy) They are soo fun, always organizing activities to keep you entretained and enjoying every single minute of your vacation. Even when it rained and we were stuck in the hotels lobby, they stepped up and made sure we had as much fun as we had the rest of the days without rain. They are always there to make recommendations and add that personal touch that makes them stand out from the rest.

We travelled to this resort for our 10 year anniversary and we absolutely loved it. We would definitely go back to this hotel.

Hotel - The property itself is beautiful, very well kept and just the right size. Not so huge that you have to walk forever to get to a restaurant or pool. It's right off of 5th Ave, which is the main street for entertainment and food, so you can just walk right over instead of having to take a cab into town.

Room - We had a Jr Oceanview Room, 352. The room was very nice and had a great view of the ocean and the pools. The only room that would have been better in this category is the one 3 over, room 355. The rooms are fairly large, clean and open. The shower and toilet are seperate from the main vanity area, which is great for when you're both getting ready. The bed was super comfy, and it was very cool that we got to select from the "pillow menu". I choose the super-soft, which was awesome for me since I'm a stomach sleeper. Hubby took the sweet-dreams-anti-snore pillow which WORKED!!! No snoring! Amazing. We want to buy one now...The turndown service was nice as they lay out slippers and leave a nice chocolate treat next to the bed. We had chosen to have our daily room service between 10-12 (cool to have a choice) but she was often not quite on time. You get 4 full size bottles of liquor in your room - easy to make drinks whenever you like. We even ordered shots of Crown Royal to our room so we could make Crown and Cokes. (They won't give you a whole bottle.)

Pool - The main pool was cool, and there are two "hot tubs" which are actually warm. There's also another pool with water volleyball and a swim up bar. The warm tubs were a good option since there were some cloudy days. If you want a prime spot, you need to be up early to claim your chair with a towel. There are a few awesome chairs that are right in the pool, and those go first. There are also 6 cabanas, which we somehow lucked out to get every single day. Two were reserved, but I managed to get one of the remaining cabanas before 9AM. Those were great as you get a bit of cover from the sun if needed. They have plenty of servers going around to bring you drinks, so you don't even have to get up or get out of the pool! There are also book stands where you can borrow a book or magazine to read by the pool. On those stands, they also have sunblock in case you need to top up. They truly think of everything.

Food/Drinks - The food was one of the things we were most impressed with. This is not the typical all-inclusive resort fare. The only restaurant that was more typical was Spice, and it was still decent. We did not eat at Mediteraneo as it seemed like they just had cheeseburgers and that sort of thing. It seems all of the food from there is what you can get through room service. Pelicanos was our go-to for breakfast - the presentation was always very nice, more than you would expect for an all-inclusive. Pinxtos was great for lunch or a snack - remember it is a TAPAS, so portions are very small. Order 4-5 items and try a bunch of things, you'll have the room. Asiana was fantastic - we loved the tuna sashimi! The steak teppanyaki was hubby's favorite. We also really enjoyed Maria Marie, the Mexican French fusion. The lobster bisque is super good with a bit of spice, and the steak with 3-peppercorn sauce was a favorite. I definitely recommend you order the Grand Marnier souffle when your main course arrives (made to order, takes 20 mins) and the creme brulee was delicious.
The selection of drinks was very good, they had all the international brands like Grey Goose and Crown Royal. You can also get champagne - not great on it's own, but try it as part of a mango cooler - so good!!

Entertainment/Activities - They had daily games, and a bunch of activities, but we mainly hung out by the pool. I did do the yoga classes at 9AM a few times, and those were great. It was beautfiul to practice right next to the ocean! Jorge and Danny were fantastic. Water volleyball was fun, but I wish they had it more than once a day. The nightly entertainment was better than most other all inclusives. There were some fantastic cirque-du-soleil type portions, but also some more repetitive dances.

Other - We told them it was our anniversary, so we got a complimentary bottle of wine in our room at arrival. We got a "private check in" which was sort of nice since you get to sit down at a desk to check in instead of standing at the main counter. I was surprised to not get a welcome drink or even just a cold water, though. We could have used it! The website says there are hair straighteners in each room, but we didn't have one. We called and one was delivered quickly. Be wary of the "Gold card" which gets you 10% off at the spa and gift store. Take the discount, but skip the invite to breakfast, which is a time-share kind of thing. One couple we met was fooled by this and ended up spending a couple of hours at the sales pitch.

Overall - we loved the resort and would definitely go back!

Room Tip: If you have booked a Junior Oceanview Suite, try for Room 355 or 352. We were in 352 and it was the...

This was our second trip to THE ROYAL. The first trip 1 year ago with a small group of 3 other couples.. My husband and I selected a BEACH FRONT WALK OUT... Room 518 last year...
This year we went with a huge group.. the trip was a music trip... Royal Rendevous...Included music artists.. Randy Brown... Jason Boland... Stoney LaRue...and Randy Rodgers... but also included a close friend of ours...an awesome singer and songwriter... Tom McElvain.
This year my husband selected the corner room next to the 'swing bar'... room 519...
BEST ROOM in the entire resort.
Obviously that is dependant upon your desires and expectations for your vacation.
My husband and I like to be in a group of friends...and we enjoy having the room that is near the pool...the bar...the beach... THIS IS THE PERFECT ROOM....
IF you want something quiet... away from the activity I wouldn't recommend this room at all... but for us it is like our home away from home..

CON for the trip.. not controlled by anyone.....We arrived at noon on Wednesday, June 20.. weather was perfect and wonderful...our room was ready the moment we arrived so we were taken directly to it..
Unfortunately.. during the night... it began to rain...and... it continued to rain the entire day Thursday...and again all night and most of the day Friday....
No one can have any control over this.. it is what it is...
WEATHER...
We still managed to have great days... between breakfast...we ate at SPICE each day , lunch at ASIANA several days...
DINNER....
Because we had BEACH FRONT SUITE...The Chef's Plate was inclusive of our trip.
In May of 2011 we only had 2 dinners at The Chef's Plate...
My husband and I were determined that we would NOT MISS A NIGHT this trip...

Wednesday night there were no concerts scheduled...so we had reservations for 8 p.m. for dinner... This worked fantastic with the fact that the weather was so great outside...so we were able to stay out at the pool with our friends until 7 p.m.....before going in to shower and dress.
First night... our waiter in The Chef's Plate was Nava.... We fell in love with him that night... He is THE BEST WAITER in all my trips to any resort or cruise..(we've been on several cruises).
The food at THE CHEF'S PLATE...well...it is beyond delicious... 5 star is an understatement as far as my husband and I are concerned....but.. it's NOT just about the food.. it's about the presentation.... and Nava exceeds superb presentation...description...each time he arrived at our table with the next course...we fell silent.. waiting in anticipation of what he was about to describe to us...
Also another man to mention at THE CHEF's Plate...
Carlos Jimenez assisted us with a wine selection... Although we are not huge wine drinkers... he helped us select a nice choice for our dinner each night...
From that night on... we made our reservations for 6 p.m.... because the concerts each night were set for 8 p.m...
When we arrived the second night...we requested Nava... and each night after that ... 4 nights total... 4 nights of the most wonderful food... wonderful service and attention to every detail by Nava....
On our last night we finally talked some friends into joining us for dinner...
The couple was very impressed with the entire experience..
This night Nava recommended we add lobster to our meal.. and we are so glad we did...
We ordered 1 to split between my husband and I.. as did the other couple that had joined us..
Absolutely spectacular...!

I can NOT say enough things about THE CHEF'S PLATE... if you have an upgraded room...which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND...then do not miss dinner in the Chef's Plate..
You can eat at the other restaurants for lunch...
and they are wonderful also.. but I promise you.. The Chef's Plate is a step far above...
IF you do not upgrade your room.. I suggest you splurge...and go 1 night to The Chef's Plate...

Other people I'd like to mention ..
Tony.. bartender at the SWING BAR... That man works hard..
Once he knows your face...knows what you like.. he will go out of his way to step up his service to you...
My husband and I relied on him the entire time we were there...and he never let us down on his service...
And.. LOPEZ.... out by the pool... I'm not sure what his job is... sometimes I saw him near the book cart...but I'm not fully certain that was his job ...
He always called me and my friends by name... always asked about each of us if he found one of us but not the others... always making sure everything about our stay was good..

Our room housekeeper...was wonderful.. although I'm ashamed to say I never knew her name...she did an excellent job...our room was always in tip top shape...

I will end my review by saying.. I don't know of one thing negative that I could possibly say..
Obviously it was a bummer to have rain for 2 straight days...but.. the resort is FANTASTIC...the service is far superior to any I've personally visited... and it's not just 1 person.. it's every person working there...
I HIGHLY recommend this resort...and look forward to going back year after year in the future...

Room Tip: I can only speak for the BEACH FRONT Walk out rooms... twice now.... I know some people might be ir...

We went with a group of friends and loved it. The workers are awesome! Dennis and Danny boy were so fun to be around, they were always there when we wanted to play volleyball. Regina was great to workout with & Prude & Estella were always there when we needed a drink or something. They were very nice. We had many compliments to all the staff. They were very friendly and willing to help you when you needed. The rooms were awesome and we just had the best time. Will definitely go back!
