This off the beach resort is very welcoming and easy going. No matter what your preference, action (danicng, games, excursions, drinks) or relaxation (quiet, pool, good food) then this place fits. It was nice to have the option to head to the beach - we spent all day every day at a neighbouring Riu and enjoyed their amenities but loved being able to head back 'home' to our smaller, friendlier resort at the end of the day. We spent a day at a quiet pool reading and talking and truly relaxing. It was easy to meet people, but we didn't feel pressured by hotel staff to be 'joiners' and not be ourselves.

Our room was fine - who spents their time there anyway? Shower had good pressure, the beds were comfortable and the hotel staff ensured we had what we needed. They were so accomodating.

A good place to stay!

Just returned April 16-23rd. From the time we walked into the lobby til the very last day, we were so thrilled with our time spent at this hotel. Staff super accommodating, even calling our room to check if everything was to our satisfaction. Thanks Aldo! This is a smaller, cozier family-style resort which made it very attractive for us. One a la carte restaurant (Mexican) was good and we were served liked Kings. The rest of the time we were at the buffet which was exceptional! I have difficulty walking but was provided with a room within a short distance to everything, pool, buffet, bars, etc. The animation group were fantastic with energy that just didn't quit. We travel a lot and enjoy trying different resorts, but this hotel is certainly one that we will return to. Thank you for a wonderful week! P.S. Must take a shuttle bus (pick-ups every 30 minutes) to the beach. Thought this would be an inconvenience but I was pleasantly surprized. Took no time at all to get there and once there the hotel has their own area on the beach with food, drink, lots of room to relax either under lots of palm trees or out in the beautiful Mexican sun!!

Room Tip: We were in room 1617 which was a ground floor room, close to everything, but we were not bothered wi...

We have just returned from a 14 day holiday at the Riu Lupita. We are a family with two children aged 11 and 12 years and all of us had an excellent time and are missing it!
This hotel is smaller that the other Riu's in Playacar but we preferred this. The Entertainment Staff were absolutely fantastic and could not have worked harder to entertain people during both the daytimes and evenings. We watched a variety of shows which were varied and we also loved the shows also put on by the Entertainment team themselves. The entertainment staff quickly knew us by name and made our son's birthday very special, as did the restaurant who set us up a lovely table that evening and gave him a cake.
Service in the restaurants and bars was excellent - as was the food and variety of food served. Our rooms were cleaned daily and we loved the towel animals left!
The shuttle bus to the beach resort was always on time and we enjoyed the small journey to the beach which was idyllic. The beach club was very clean and the food there served was lovely.
There is a quiet pool as well if you prefer peaceful days - we always managed to get sunbeds at both the pools and the beach. We got the second floor room that we requested and our room was nice and quiet.
We had a great holiday and definetely hope to return again in the future.

We choose this hotel for his kindness, the fact it lays a bit from the beach but not to far. The food was excellent, the drinks yummy and the entertaiment for the kids perfect!

Room Tip: A four bedded room (room 2011) is rather small for four people....but because you live most of the t...

We stayed at the Riu Lupita from 1-8 April this year. After reading reviews, we decided to give it a chance and got it for a great deal ($400+tax ea). We requested ahead of time to have a room on the 1st floor over by the tennis courts as they were highly recommend in reviews. We arrived there early in the morning and nothing was available so I asked Aldo at the front desk if he could provide us with something convenient and quiet. Within 5 minutes, he passed us a key and said we would enjoy the room. He was right, it was perfect. We were located between the buffet and the adult pool on the 2nd floor. It was very quiet and very close to everything. After reading other reviews we also knew to ask for the foam bed topper as the bed are hard. One was placed on our bed within hours and was very comfortable. Highly recommend this as we heard others complaining about hard beds. We really enjoyed the buffet all week, the food was delicious and never a problem to get a table no waiting in lines. Tried the a la carte one night. It was nice, but the menu is minimal. Definitely do it one night but the buffet is just as good. The shuttle service is great, we used it everyday. It always leaves about 5-10 minutes early so be ready for that. We visited Riu Playacar, and Riu Yucatan. Yucatan was beautiful! The only issue was that it was huge and you would have to walk an awful lot to get around. Also, we had the lunch buffet there and due to so many people, we had to wait 15 minutes to get a table and the food was quickly picked through, not a problem at the lupita. The beach is the nicest we've seen yet of Jamaica, Dominican, and Cuba. The staff at the Lupita was nothing short of incredible, very helpful and pleasant. The only issue is that the entertainment staff and the guest rarely speak English. I am bilingual so it was fine for me but my wife found it hard as more people spoke French. We went to Xel Ha on an excursion. The tour guides at the resort wanted $109 ea. Instead we purchased it at the bus station in Playacar for $79 dollars each and drove there on a very comfortable coachline with a/c and bathrooms. We also went deep sea fishing. Dont buy this from the resort either. Just walk down to the beach and ask the fisherman. The vendors at the resort and in town wanted $450 for 4 hours and you can get it for $220 from the fisherman.
All in all, I highly recommend this resort. No its not a luxury 5 star resort but for the price, it is. If you're a simple person and just want to relax and don't require pampering and don't want to be swarmed by 1000's of people, this is the right spot for you.
Any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Room Tip: by the adult pool!!
