Just got back from a beautiful week at the Viceroy. Only 41 rooms and everyone has their own private pool. Every member of the staff knew our name from the moment we got there. Amazing food at every meal, the street food night and the bbq night were great as well. We will most definitely be back

Room Tip: Do the Mayan indulgence. Otherwise the tax and service charge add up quickly

This resort was a delightful surprise. It's small (41 villas) so you feel very valued and pampered by the staff, who are amazingly friendly and attentive. My villa was gorgeous with a private patio, plunge pool, and outdoor shower. It was very peaceful and relaxing. I was on a solo trip, but I can't think of any place more romantic and hope to return with my husband sometime. The food was outstanding -- their chef is very talented (gourmet Mexican). Everyone I talked to was also super pleased with this resort.

Room Tip: Some villas have an upgraded bathroom with a beautiful tub!

We had a great time. It's small only 41 rooms but the staff , food , room , beach were amazing. The staff couldn't do enough for you!We had a premium room which was huge with a pool and outdoor shower. Very secluded! Playa del Carmen was only 10 minutes away. If you like quiet, this is the place too be.

Beautiful boutique property. Wanted to avoid the mega resorts, but still have some infrastructure, restaurants and options. Our villa was exquisite, with a private and functional patio, outdoor shower, private plunge pool, nice interior design and build, local art. The property is relatively lush since it was built about 13 years ago, and the villas are tucked into a winding path from the spa-like entrance down to the pool, beach and restaurant area. There are several types of villas, with privacy, size and price varying - probably worth your call to confirm what you have booked. The primary restaurant/grill has an excellent kitchen and is well staffed with servers. The menu was diverse enough for a 4-day stay. The 2nd restaurant, La Marea, has a beautiful treetop setting, our one meal there did not quite measure up to expectations, though service was good. Management and front desk staff - especially Natalia - were great, checking in periodically but not intrusive. The beach is obviously smaller than other large properties, but there is privacy and quiet, the sand is pristine and there is a nice pier to walk on. Chairs and daybeds are great. Service attentive. Drinks are OK and costly. The spa has a nice earthy, organic design to it. The Viceroy's location is good, not too far from the airport as well as near lots of sites/activities if you want to take a day or half-day trip. Main roads are easy to drive and navigate.

Great ambiance, great service, great food. The rooms and private pools are wonderful. The only parts that reduced this from a 5 to a 4 is the lack of privacy and the noise. The grass walls afford some privacy for rooms without a beach view, but people can still see in where the walls are sagging. The beach view rooms have no privacy and everyone walking on the paths can see in. We switched rooms (we were only able to upgrade for a portion of our stay) and moved to the back of the property. Still a nice room but it backed on what seemed to be an hvac building or something from the neighbouring resort. It hummed all night long... Loved the small hotel feel but I likely won't come back.

Room Tip: No privacy in the ocean view rooms... Be warned.
